How do I know if I need an alarm permit?
If you have an ADT professionally monitored system, you may be required to purchase an alarm permit depending on your location. Be sure to check with your local Police Department and county Sheriff to see if a permit is required in your municipality and if there are any associated fees. Note: Permits are only needed for professionally monitored systems. Self-monitored systems can function without permits.

Battery and power
Does the ADT Security Hub have a backup battery?
Yes, the ADT Security Hub has a backup battery with a 24-hour life span. It is not intended for long-term use. When you first plug the system in, the battery will take some time to fully charge. The battery (when plugged in) is expected to last approximately 3 years under normal conditions.
The Hub will display "Batt" or "Lo Bat" when the battery needs replacing. The replacement battery (Schenzhen Battery CO., LTD) is available from a qualified 2GIG dealer.
What happens if the ADT Security Hub loses power?
When the panel loses power, many operations, including SmartThings connectivity and Wi-Fi, will be shut down. The screen will briefly show a "Power lost" message. The ADT Security Hub will enter a sleep mode with basic functionality.
Sleep mode allows the panel to continue to listen for alerts. It can do so for up to 24 hours on the rechargeable battery backup. When an ADT device triggers an alert in sleep mode, it will power back on operations and send out regular alerts. If there is a Wi-Fi outage, the LTE cellular backup will immediately take over. Event notifications will still be sent to ADT monitoring services.
