Update Your Device
- To check for a software update navigate to and select Settings.
- Search for and select Download updates manually.
- If a software update is available, follow the prompts to install the update.
Software Versions and Your Carrier Including Unlocked
To clarify, when we say Software Version, we're talking about the Android operating system and Samsung Experience on your Samsung product. You probably already knew this, but sharing is caring! In order to find your Software version, just navigate to Setting > About Phone or Tablet on your device.
When a software update is officially released, the date you receive the update varies by carrier, region and device model. Unlocked devices must go through more rigorous testing than carrier specific devices to make sure there is proper network functionality across all supported networks. For example, carrier specific devices are made to handle one network, Unlocked devices need to be able to handle any/all compatible networks so you may see updates for carrier devices first.
Meaning if you are waiting to receive your update, but your buddy has already gotten theirs, you will need to make sure that your device is receiving the update and verify with your carrier on timing to be released.
Software Update Process for Carrier and Unlocked Phones
The carrier and the Samsung have agreed to support a new software update. Samsung starts working on the update.
During this stage the device will go through the carrier certification process testing to make sure you get the best quality software possible.
The software has been approved to launch and is now available. When it's ready for you, your device will provide a notification that the update is available and how to download it.
