Use the AI assistants on your phone

Bixby and Google Assistant are both handy AI programs that you can use on your phone, but you're not limited to those two. If you have Alexa, you can use her on your phone, and you can even set Samsung Internet as a phone assistant. Each assistant is awesome in its own way, but Bixby is made specifically for Galaxy phones and has its own special features. However, you can change the default assistant on your phone if you'd like.

Why Bixby should be your default AI assistant

As amazing as Google Assistant and the other AI assistants are, Bixby is the only one that can access Samsung-exclusive services. For example, Bixby can control your devices in SmartThings and even make purchases in Samsung Pay. It can even connect to your Spotify account to make finding songs easier.

And don't forget Bixby’s key functions. Bixby Home adapts to your daily routine, and Bixby Reminders helps you stay on track of your schedule. There's also Bixby Vision for browsing, shopping, and doing so much more.

Even if the other AI assistants have some similar features, they aren’t integrated with your phone the same way Bixby is.

Change your default phone assistant (One UI)

Bixby will always be at your beck and call even if you use other assistants. But if needed, you can set another one, like Google or Alexa, as your default assistant in addition to Bixby.

From Settings, search for and select Device assistance app. Tap Device assistance app again and a list of available assistants will appear. Choose your desired option, and then tap OK. However, please be aware that Bixby will remain active and will wake up when you press the Bixby key. If desired, you can remap the Bixby button.

Note: On some phones, this feature may be called Phone assistance app.

Change your default phone assistant (Oreo OS)

Maybe you want to try out Google Assistant for a while. Just make it your default AI assistant.

Navigate to Settings, and then search for and select Device assistance app. Tap Device assistance app again and a list of available assistants will appear. Bixby won't be displayed on this list because it's going to be always the main voice assistant for Galaxy phones. Choose your desired option, and then tap AGREE. However, please be aware that Bixby will remain active and will wake up when you press the Bixby key. If desired, you can remap the Bixby button.
