Customising Samsung Devices to Suit Specific Vertical Market Needs
KNOX Customisation allows enterprises to turn off-the-shelf equipment into tailor made B2B tools
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 13 October 2016 – Imagine being able to transform a basic Samsung device into a purpose-built appliance for the specific vertical business-to-business (B2B) market in which you operate, be it aviation, retail or hospitality.
KNOX Custom Configurator (KCC), targeted at Systems Integrators and Enterprise IT administrators, is a comprehensive set of tools and services that allow businesses to tailor Samsung devices to their unique desires. It includes KNOX Customisation software development kit (SDK), providing the opportunity to create an Android app tailored to the user experience.
“The KCC supports out-of-the-box customisation for bulk device configuration. In other words, instead of purchasing purpose-built hardware, the cloud-based portal allows enterprises to quickly and easily deploy configurations for large numbers of users to commercial, off-the-shelf devices,” says Paulo Ferreira, Director of Enterprise Mobility at Samsung Electronics South Africa.
Ferreira explains that just a few examples of how Samsung devices can be tailored for specific business purposes include being used as menus in restaurants, digital signage in retail stores, information repositories at a public kiosk, point-of-sales terminals to take customer orders, or even as survey collection devices.
KCC not only makes modifications simple, but also permits the administrators to install apps and content, as well as locking down the devices with simple steps from a browser-based console.
Mandatory registrations for end users ensures that devices are only used for business needs and if lost or stolen, the Custom Configurator settings can’t be wiped. Since device enrolment is tied to the device identity, it means that factory resetting the phone or tablet won’t be able to remove the Custom Configurator settings. Furthermore, since all configurations and content are automatically pushed over-the-air as soon as the device is connected to the Internet, customisation can be done in bulk, rather than connecting individual devices to a computer, one at a time.
“The advantages offered by KNOX Customisation are multiple. Not only does it allow you to invest in off-the-shelf Samsung devices, instead of buying custom-built hardware, but it offers a genuinely scalable solution to your business needs. With Samsung and KNOX Customisation, you can build solutions which can easily grow and expand as your business evolves,” concludes Ferreira.
