Samsung Dangles One Million Rand Carrot
An opportunity to enhance our unifying power of sport to promote harmony
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 24 December, 2015 – Cricket South Africa and Proteas’ official consumer electronics partner, Samsung, have issued a challenge to all Proteas players - hit a sequence of scoring shots that are boundaries 4-6-6-6-4, and the electronics giant will donate One Million Rand to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
This wonderful initiative will apply to all Proteas International matches played in South Africa across the three formats. The Boxing Day Test Match between the Proteas and England will see the commencement of this challenge.
CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, praised the initiative. “We must commend Samsung for their innovation as we try and keep the action exciting on and off the field,” explained Lorgat.
“We are into our second year of the partnership and it’s been fantastic to have the backing of Samsung. I’m just delighted. If the combination of boundaries is achieved, an organisation like the Nelson Mandela Foundation will stand to benefit.”
“Well done to Samsung for supporting this concept and I sincerely hope that one of our players come good,” concludes Lorgat.
”This initiative makes the game that much more exciting. It’s a wonderful challenge to the players to support the work of Madiba and keep his legacy alive, while entertaining the crowds at the same time. I thank our partners, CSA and Samsung for this great initiative,” said Neeran Naidoo, Director of Communications at the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“As Samsung South Africa we are pleased to remain a member of the CSA family and proud to have the opportunity to support a challenge that enhances our nation’s cricket playing heritage and legacy,” says Matthew Thackrah, Deputy MD of Samsung Electronics SA.
