Tips for Moving Large Home Appliances with Ease
Samsung shares advice on safely moving household goods
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 07 December, 2015 – Heavy and bulky household appliances are extremely difficult to move. The process of moving to another home involves plenty of heavy lifting and sometimes home owners have to pay professionals to move these heavy items, making the move even more expensive.
Each category brings its own unique demands; washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators and TVs require very careful handling and there are some helpful hints to avoid damaging these items.
Richard Chetty, Service Director at Samsung Electronics South Africa, says, “Samsung recommends making use of the Samsung in-store delivery service to avoid any complications associated with self-delivery.”
When using of any delivery service, Chetty suggests that consumers inspect their goods carefully for any possible damage before signing for them. The same recommendation applies for those moving house. Extra care should be taken when moving heavy appliances without professional assistance. To prevent possible denting, scratching or other permanent damage, a good tip is to wrap the appliance in bubble wrap or a thick blanket to protect it during transportation.
Ensure that the appliance is upright at all times - this is especially important for refrigerators, as modern models contain gas. When tilted, the gas may shift and move around to areas where it shouldn’t, causing possible harm to the compressor. Refrigerators need to run for three days before being used to allow the gas to settle and reach a stable temperature.
In terms of washing machines, make sure the product is stabilised and that the transport bolt has been removed. To maintain the machine, clean the filter at least every three months as this will assist the durability and longevity of your machine.
"Samsung provides user-friendly online videos for all of its products to assist consumers to get the best out of them and last for years to come. We are passionate about customer care and this involves empowering our clients to look after their products from purchase to home-use," concludes Chetty.
