What should I Do If a broadband dongle won't work with my Samsung netbook?

This guide covers netbooks running Windows XP or Windows 7. The steps for Windows 7 are displayed first and the steps for Windows XP are displayed lower down.

If you are experiencing problems with a broadband dongle, the following may help to resolve it.

  • Make sure the problem is not with your network. You will need to contact your service provider.
  • Ensure the broadband dongle is installed correctly. Contact its manufacturer directly.
  • Make sure you have set the broadband dongle. To check the device type, click Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > Network Adaptor.
  • Set up the wireless connection.
  • Press the FN +  key combination and enable the Wireless LAN feature. Once the LAN is enabled the wireless LED  turns on.

  1. Click the Network Connections icon  in the system tray, a list of available APs (Access points) appear. When you select an AP you want to connect to, the connect button appears.

  1. If a network key is set for the AP, enter the network key and then click Connect.

Steps for Windows XP

  1. Click the Network Connections icon  from the taskbar, then click View Available Wireless Networks.

  1. Select an AP to connect to and click Connect.
  2. If a network key is set for the AP, enter the network key and then click OK.

  1. Once connected to an AP, you can use the wireless network.
