I'm having difficulty connecting to or using Android Auto

Follow the below steps to troubleshoot issues between your device and Android Auto

Check your phone is charging

If your phone isn't charging when you plug it into the car, it could be that there is debris or dust in one of the USB ports.

Use the correct USB cable

It's important to use the USB cable that came with your phone, or a cable that's supported by your phone's manufacturer.

Also note that longer USB cables can cause connection to drop so use a shorter cable where possible.

Enable the Android Auto app in your car

Some cars require that you activate Android Auto in the car's settings menu.

Connect your phone and your car via Bluetooth

Make sure your car has Bluetooth active and that your phone and car are connected to each other. You will still need to connect your phone to your car with a USB cable.

Allow your phone to transfer data via USB

When you have connected your phone to your car with a USB cable, check that data transferring is enabled.

Please note: steps may change depending on your device.

1. From the home screen swipe down from the top to choose notifications.

2. There should be a transferring media files via USB notification, if so you should be connected.

3. If it does not say anything about media transfer or MTP then choose the charging via USB notification.


4. Select Transfer media files.


Update your software and apps

Check your phone for the latest android software and also check the Play Store for Android Auto app updates.

Contact your car manufacturer for support

If you're still having problems, report the issue to your car manufacturer. They may be aware of existing issues or be able to help you troubleshoot your issue further.
