Sometimes the alarm on my Samsung Galaxy device doesn't go off. How Can I fix this?

Last Update Date : Apr 25. 2018

If the alarm you set through the Clock app on your Samsung Android device is unreliable a software bug is likely the cause of the problem. To rid your device of such a bug please follow the steps below.

Note: before following the below steps it's worth checking to make sure that the volume for the alarm you set isn't too low (bear in mind that you can set different volume levels for separate alarms).

Clear the Clock app's data

1. From the Home screen touch App Icon Apps.

GS4 Home Screen - Apps Icon Framed

2. Touch GS4 Settings Icon Settings (you may need to swipe left or right to locate it first).

GS4 Apps Menu - Settings Icon Framed

3. Touch Application Manager (you may need to scroll down or touch the More tab first to locate it).

4. Swipe left several times to see the All list of apps.

5. Touch Clock (scroll down to locate it: the apps are listed in alphabetical order).

6. Touch Clear data.

7. Go back to the Home screen, access the Clock app and then set an alarm to go off a couple of minutes from now. If the alarm goes off on time you've likely gotten rid of the bug. If not, proceed to the next section.

Perform a software update

Perform a software update by following the steps below (note that these steps may differ slightly for your specific smartphone or tablet):

1. From the Home screen touch Apps.

2. Touch Settings (you may need to swipe left or right to locate it first).

3. Touch About device (you may need to touch the More tab first).

4. Touch Software update.

5. Touch Update.

6. Go back to the Home screen, access the Clock app and then set an alarm to go off a couple of minutes from now. If the alarm goes off on time you've likely gotten rid of the bug. If not, proceed to the next section.

Perform a factory reset

Follow the steps below to perform a factory reset.

1. Back up all the media, text messages, etc that you wish to save. This can be done through Kies on your PC. A factory reset will wipe your phone clean, restoring the software to how it was when the device left the factory.

2. From the Home screen touch Settings.

3. Touch Back up and reset.

4. Touch Factory data reset.

5. Touch Reset device.

6. Go back to the Home screen, access the Clock app and then set an alarm to go off a couple of minutes from now. If the alarm goes off on time you've likely gotten rid of the bug. If not, your device may require an engineer's attention. Please click here to find the location and contact details of your nearest Samsung service centre to arrange to have your device examined by an expert.
