What Does DVI Stand For?

Last Update Date : Apr 04. 2018

DVI (Digital Video Interface) is an uncompressed, digital video interface that was originally developed for the PC industry which was seeking a low-cost, high bandwith digital connection between PC's and digital monitors.

DVI is technology-independent. This means that DVI can be used with any display device (a TV for example) and video source (a home theater system, a DVD player, a set top box) that is DVI compliant.

Since it only processes video signals, it requires to connect to audio interface using audio cables in order to get the sound.

DVI compliant devices have special DVI input or output jacks that require a special DVI cable.
