Express yourself with emojis on your Galaxy phone

Texting without emojis, stickers, or gifs? Who ever heard of such a thing? Emojis and other fun images have become a staple of texting, and with the One UI 4 update on your Galaxy phone you have more choices than ever before when you need to express yourself! You can add a few extra cute emojis at the end of a message, send a hilarious gif to your group chat, or customize your own stickers and avatars so you will always have the best reactions.

Note: Information provided applies to Galaxy devices sold in Canada with running One UI 4. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.

Note: The keyboard shortcuts detailed in this article are for the Samsung Keyboard. They may not apply to third-party keyboards.

Open Samsung Messages, and then open a text conversation. Next, tap the Emoji icon (the smiley face) next to the text field or in the keyboard.

Use emojis and more in your messages

Browse through the different shortcuts to see the sharing options. To choose your desired emoji, sticker, gif, or image, simply tap it! You can send multiple emojis per text, so tap away! However, you can only send one sticker, gif, image, or other attachment at a time. When you are ready, tap the Send icon.

Below are the available emoji and sticker options if you have the One UI 4 update and a Samsung Keyboard with the latest software version:

  • Home: This tab displays a summary of recent emojis or stickers you have sent. It will also recommend suggestions of emojis to use or download.
  • Emojis: Get access to Android’s emojis! Tap the different categories at the top of the menu, such as Smileys, Animals and so on, to filter through all the emojis.
  • GIF: View and download gifs directly from Giphy and Tenor. You can search for gifs manually or tap the different categories to see popular recommendations, like “Happy” or “OMG”.

Note: You may need to accept the terms and conditions for Giphy and Tenor by tapping Agree first before you can access their gifs.

  • AR Emoji: Create your very own emoji that looks like you! You can customize its looks and outfit, and then use the emoji to make your very own stickers and gifs. Once your AR emoji is created, you can select stickers with it right from the keyboard.

Note: AR Emojis may not be available on some Galaxy A models.

  • Bitmoji: Connect your Bitmoji account to your Samsung Keyboard for quick access to your custom-made avatar and all of its stickers or reactions.
  • Mojitok: Find and use cute, animated stickers and gifs from the Samsung-exclusive mojitok collection!
  • Emoji pairs: A brand-new feature that lets you create gifs using classic emoji expressions. Choose from several animation styles, so you can go crazy and make something wacky!
  • Other sticker sets: There are a couple of other included sticker sets, such as Hip Mimi and more. If you ever want to download new sticker sets, tap the Add icon (the plus sign) in the far-right end of the menu. Some sticker sets may require purchase.

Note: Are you always relying on stickers and gifs from one keyboard shortcut but do not really use other ones? Or, maybe one sticker set is not really your style. No worries, you can add or remove your emoji keyboard shortcuts to suit your preferences.

1 Open Samsung Messages, and then open a text conversation.
2 Next, tap the Emoji icon (the smiley face) next to the text field or in the keyboard.
3 Swipe all the way to the left until you reach the Settings icon, and then tap it.
4 A list of all available keyboard shortcuts will appear. Tap the switch next to the shortcuts you would like to add or remove.
