Sleeping apps on your Galaxy phone

If you are constantly switching between apps all day long, your device’s battery will drain quickly. Luckily, you can put some of your apps to sleep to save some battery life throughout the day. Setting your apps to sleep will prevent them from running in the background so you can focus on the apps you use most often. You can always switch the settings later if you change your mind and need to start using a few apps again.

Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.

There are several options for putting your apps to sleep, and it all depends on how often you use the apps. For example, if you rarely use the Calculator app, just set it to Deep sleeping apps so you will not need to worry about it draining any battery life.

Accessing the settings will vary depending on your phone:

  • On newer models: Navigate to and open Settings, and then tap Battery. Finally, tap Background usage limits.

  • On older models: Navigate to and open Settings, and then tap Battery and device care. Tap Battery, and then tap Background usage limits.
