Use the Together feature in Samsung Health on your Galaxy phone

Just like most activities, working out is more fun when you do it with someone else. Well, you will never exercise alone with Samsung Health. Its Together feature lets you challenge your friends to walking competitions. Or, you can join Global challenges and participate in different workout contests with people all over the world. With the Together feature in Samsung Health, you can join in on the action.

Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries.

Note: Before you can start participating in Challenges and having fun with your gym buddies, you will need to set up the Together feature.

1 On your phone, navigate to and open Samsung Health, and then tap the Together tab.

2 Tap Allow to give Samsung Health permission to access your phone's contacts. This is needed so you can connect with friends in the app.
3 Choose whether or not you want to Keep contacts synced, and then tap Connect to add your contacts to Samsung Health.

Note: Connecting your contacts is required to participate in Challenges and other activities.

4 Once it is all set up, you can add friends by finding them through the Friends page. Please see the next section to learn more.

Note: Maybe you want to challenge some buddies to a little friendly competition. Luckily, as long as you have set up Together, you can add friends whether they are hardcore Samsung Health users or have never even used it!

2 Tap Add next to Friends at the top of the screen.
3 From there, select your desired method to add a friend: QR code or Invite.

4 QR code lets you add a friend by scanning their Samsung Health QR code. Invite lets you send a link through email, text, or other sharing methods.
5 Once you have chosen a method, follow the on-screen prompts to add a friend.

Note: Once you join Together, you can work out with your best friends or people from other countries. When you create an individual challenge, everyone will compete on their own to see who gets the best results in the end.

  • Get there first creates a walking or running challenge with a certain number of steps. You can invite friends and whoever reaches the target first wins.
  • Go the farthest creates a challenge to see who can get the most steps in a set amount of time. You can invite friends to this challenge as well.
3 Once you have decided on what challenge to do, tap Individual under Get there first or Go the farthest.
4 Choose whether the challenge will be Private or Public. If you pick Private, you will need to invite friends to participate.
5 Next, enter your other preferred settings for the challenge (the date, the step count, etc.).
6 Tap Create challenge, and then share the challenge with your friends.

Note: To have some friendly competition, you can create challenges with teams where your friends will compete against each other in groups! You can assign the teams yourself or have the app do it for you.

5 Next, enter your other preferred settings for the challenge (the date, the step count, etc.). Tap Create challenge, and then share it with your friends.
6 After you create the challenge, you can divide the participants into two teams or wait until the challenge starts to have them assigned randomly.
7 To separate the participants into teams, tap Assign to teams at the bottom of the screen. Drag and drop the participants between the two teams to reassign them, and then tap Save when you are finished.

Note: To compete with people all over the world, join the Global challenge! Every month, Samsung Health hosts a new themed Global challenge where you need to reach a certain step count. The app lets you view how many steps and milestones other Samsung Health users have reached.

2 Tap the current Global challenge, (i.e. Beach, July or Green Tea, August), and then review the challenge's conditions. If you want to compete in the challenge, tap Join or Join now.
3 You can also invite friends to participate in Global challenges. On the challenge's page, tap the More options icon (the three vertical dots), and then tap Invite friends.
4 Tap Send, and then choose your desired sharing method to invite your friends.
5 Start walking and increasing your step count to participate in the Global challenge.

Note: Maybe you do not want strangers sending challenge requests to you on Samsung Health. Do not worry, you can adjust some privacy settings when participating in challenges.

1 Navigate to and open Samsung Health, tap the Menu icon (the three horizontal lines), and then tap Settings
2 From here, you can adjust privacy options in two different sections: Receive challenges from, and Find and manage friends.
3 Tap Receive challenges from, and then decide if you want to receive challenges from anyone, friends only, or no one.

4 Next, tap Find and manage friends to adjust what information can be seen by others using the Samsung Health app. The following options will be available:
  • Who can see my step count: Choose between anyone, friends only, or no one.
  • Auto add new friends to leaderboard: Have your friends automatically appear in your leaderboard. Tap the switch to turn this option on or off.
  • Keep contacts synced: Samsung Health users in your contacts will be automatically synced to your friends list.
