How to activate or deactivate auto rotate on you Galaxy smartphone or tablet

If you want to change the orientation of your smartphone or tablet’s screen, you can adjust the rotation settings. You can also set the screen to rotate freely depending on how you hold your device.

To find the screen rotation icon, swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick settings panel.

  • If auto rotate is enabled, the icon will be blue. In this mode, your phone or tablet’s screen will rotate depending on how you’re holding the device. Turn your device sideways to switch to landscape mode. This option is enabled by default when you first get a phone

  • If Portrait or Landscape mode is enabled, the icon will be grey. In Portrait mode, the screen will be locked in a vertical position. In Landscape mode, the screen will be locked in a horizontal position

1 Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick settings panel
2 If the screen is locked in one mode (grey icon) and you want to change it, tap the icon to activate auto rotate
3 Close the Quick settings panel and rotate your device to the orientation that you want
4 Open the Quick settings panel again and tap the icon to lock it in position

By default, the home screen won’t rotate to landscape mode. However, you can change this in the home screen settings.
1 Press and hold an empty part of your home screen

To adjust other screen rotation settings

1 Press and hold the Screen rotation icon in the Quick settings panel

To temporarily lock the screen when auto rotate is enabled, keep a finger on the screen while turning the phone or tablet. This way, the screen will stay in the original position as long as you hold your finger in place. To allow the screen to rotate, release your finger.
