Will my messenger data transfer with Smart Switch?

Smart Switch allows you to transfer messages on your Android™ or iOS devices from apps such as WhatsApp or Kakao Talk to a new Samsung device. Know how Smart Switch makes it possible below.

To share your messenger application data, you must remember to back up the data and update the applications to the most recent version.

WhatsApp

If you want to import data, you must review these conditions:

  • Smart Switch version: 3.7.21.5 or more.
  • WhatsApp version:
    • iOS: 2.21.160.13 or more.
    • Android: 2.21.16.16 or more.
  • If the Galaxy device used WhatsApp before restoring Smart Switch, restoration will not proceed.
  • The WhatsApp chat data restoration function is only supported for transmission through cable.

Transmission of WhatsApp chats is not supported on Android devices through Smart Switch. 

KakaoTalk

At their request, KakaoTalk's app conversation records are not transmitted through Smart Switch. However, your conversation records in the KakaoTalk app can be backed up and restored in that app. If you want to do this, follow these steps:

1 Open KakaoTalk on your previous device and tap on the More option. Click on “Settings” and go to the “Chat menu”.
2 Tap on Conversation Backup.
3 Click “Backup Conversation” and follow the instructions on the screen.
4 Send data through Smart Switch.
5 When the transfer is complete, open KakaoTalk on your new mobile phone and log in.
