How do I fix my Samsung keyboard from lagging?

Last Update date : Dec 23. 2022

There is nothing more annoying than realizing that your phone's keyboard keeps hanging, lagging, or not working properly. If the keyboard isn't working,  you'll want to get it up and running again as soon as possible. Using the default keyboard, clearing the cache, and checking for software updates are some of the things you can do to get rid of the keyboard crash issue on your Samsung phone.

Below are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to fix the keyboard issues on your phone.

Many users try different keyboards for additional features and functionality, but chances are there that your device may not support it. We recommend using the Samsung Keyboard that comes preinstalled on your device to avoid any incompatibility issues. To enable the default keyboard on Samsung then follow the given below steps.

1. Open 'Settings'.

2. Tap 'General Management'.

3. Tap 'Keyboard list and default'.

4. Tap the 'Default keyboard'.

5. Choose 'Samsung Keyboard'.

The great thing about the default Samsung keyboard is how customizable it is. You can change the language, layout, themes, size, feedback, and even add custom symbols.Find out more about How to use keyboard settings at 'How to use keyboard settings on your Galaxy device’ with Samsung Support.

Close all of the running apps on your phone or tablet. Navigate to Settings > Battery & Device Care > Optimize Now. This will close any apps that are running in the background and optimize certain settings.

Clear the Cache and Data for your keyboard and see if it works.

2. Tap the sort icon and then tap the switch next to Show system apps, and then tap OK.

3. Tap Samsung Keyboard > Force stop > Storage.

4. Tap Clear data, and then tap OK. This will erase all your keyboard settings, including saved words.

Restarting your phone is the most common solution to fix minor glitches and bugs on your device.

  • On phones with a regular Power key, press and hold the Power key until the Power menu is displayed.
  • On phones without a dedicated power button, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to open Quick settings. Tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.

Tap Restart, and then tap Restart again to confirm. Your device will then turn on and off.

Open Settings, tap Software update > Download and install or Check for updates. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to update your device. After the update, your device will restart.

Launching your phone in Safe Mode allows only the core applications to run on your phone enabling you to observe its performance without the impact of your third-party applications.

  • On phones with a regular Power key, press and hold the Power key until the Power menu is displayed.
  • On phones without a dedicated power button, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to open Quick settings. Tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.

Hold Power off until the Safe mode icon is displayed. Tap Safe mode to restart your phone in Safe mode. If you've entered Safe mode successfully, you'll see "Safe mode" displayed at the bottom of the screen.

If the problem no longer occurs when you are in Safe mode, a third-party app was causing the problem. Uninstall any recently installed apps. Turn on the phone normally by restarting it, and then check if the keyboard is working.

Has your phone recently encountered random falls and drops? If yes, then it could result in physical damage to the screen that resulted in a keyboard issue. In such a scenario, we recommend bringing it to the nearest Authorized Service Center or booking an appointment for repair.

Note: Device screenshots and menus may vary depending on the device model and software version.
