How to fix software update failed error on Samsung phone

Updating the software on your Samsung Galaxy phone is always recommended. If a software update failed to install, perform the troubleshooting tips below.

Your device isn’t compatible

If you don't see the option to update to new software when it becomes available, your device might not support the latest release. Check whether your Galaxy phone is on the list of compatible devices for the latest version of Android. on the Samsung Members app.

If you have a compatible device but your phone won't update, try the steps below.

Your internet connection isn’t strong enough

It is highly recommended to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading a new software update. If your Wi-Fi connection isn't strong enough, your updates may not install properly, or they may take too long to complete. If your phone isn’t updating, stop the installation and try again later when your Wi-Fi connection is more stable.

There isn’t enough battery

The software update isn’t installing properly could be due to your battery. Make sure the battery is sufficient before updating.

There isn't enough available storage

If there is an error concerning insufficient storage, you will need to free up storage space. The device will display the amount of space needed.

Deleting an app that you don’t use is a simple way to free up storage space on your device. Press and hold the app icon and select Uninstall. You can also follow the steps below.

Step 1. Go to Settings and select Apps.

Step 2. Choose an app you would like to delete from the list.

Step 3. Select Uninstall.

Step 4. Tap OK to delete the app.
