What is Screen Mirroring and how to use it with my Samsung TV and Galaxy device?

Last Update date : Apr 09. 2021

Screen mirroring, also called screen sharing, is simply the process of replicating a phone, laptop, tablet or computer screen onto a TV screen. Screen mirroring can be useful in an office setting as well as at home.

Screen mirroring technology has changed substantially over recent years and the best method to mirror your screen will differ depending on the age, model and manufacturer of your smartphone, tablet and TV.

Most Samsung smartphones include a Screen Mirroring or Smart View feature which enables screen mirroring with Samsung Smart TVs and other smart devices. The feature is compatible with TVs that use WiFi direct technology.

ㆍSamsung TV model F range (2013) : Use screen mirroring via WiFi

ㆍSamsung TV model (before 2013) : Use screen mirroring via an Allshare Cast or HDMI cable

There are 3 methods to prep your Samsung TV depending on your model.

Older models: Press the Source button, then select the Screen Mirroring source option.

Newer models: Select Menu on your remote then navigate to: Network > Screen Mirroring

Most recent models will allow you to save a device list in order to view and manage connected devices within the TV. You can do this in the Settings menu at: General > Network > External Device Manager > Device Connection Manager > Device List

There is a dedicated Screen Mirroring feature on some Samsung smartphones and tablets. Older devices and those running operating systems older than Android 4.1.12 may not have the Screen Mirroring feature.

Some newer devices will have Smart View rather than Screen Mirroring in the menu function.  How to find out if your device has Screen Mirroring or Smart View function.

How to find out if your device has Screen Mirroring or Smart View function:

ㆍGo to Home screen >  Use two fingers to pull down the extended notification menu

ㆍIf your device does not have these features, you can still connect via Quick Connect

Available on:

ㆍSamsung Galaxy S series (from Samsung Galaxy S3 and up)

ㆍSamsung Galaxy A series

ㆍSamsung Galaxy J series

ㆍSamsung Galaxy Note series (from Galaxy Note 2 and up)

ㆍSamsung Galaxy Tab series

1 Use two fingers held slightly apart to pull down the extended notification menu > Tap Screen Mirroring or Quick Connect. Your device will now scan for TVs and other devices to which they can be mirrored.
2 Tap the TV you wish to connect to. Your TV must have the screen mirroring function switched on for this to work. Your device will now begin connecting to your TV.
3 Once connected, your mobile device screen will be displayed on the TV.

If you have an older TV or device, or are trying to connect a laptop or PC, you may need to use a wired connection and/or connector.
