'InfoMobile' SAMSUNG's Next-Generation SmartPhone

OCTOBER 22, 1997, Seoul, KOREA (NOVEMBER 17, 1997, Las Vegas, U.S.A.): Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd developed the next generation portable multimedia handset 'InfoMobile', a combination of a dual mode (CDMA/Analog) handphone and a secondary PC , and will introduce it during the COMDEX Fall '97, Las Vegas, U.S.A.

'InfoMobile' is very competitive with similar advanced models and was developed to satisfy customers looking for a combination of a wireless data communications system and a personal information management system which can connect to a PC.

'InfoMobile' (Model: SCS-100) has wireless telecommunications functions: digital data communications (Internet, e-mail), digital fax, a handphone function (digital/analog) and a software modem. The option of a data adopter (Model: DA-10) enables wired communications and wired faxes whenever and wherever to whomever. The handfree kit enables one to talk with both hands on the wheel.

'InfoMobile' adopts Windows CE 2.0, developed by Microsoft Co., and has similar functions as Windows '95. These functions include character recognition, developed by Samsung, LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays), and both a screen keyboard and an accessory keyboard to manage personal information such as writing and storing documents. By adding various programs, a portable office is possible.

'InfoMobile' isn't only simple but also systemized. The existing handphone functions were improved in order to effectively exchange data between the PC and handphones. Once the information for telephone, fax, beeper and e-mail addresses is saved in the PC, all these functions become possible. The SMS (Short Message Service) can be viewed on either secondary PC's handheld, graphic LCD or on a larger LCD by connecting it to a PC. Through data telecom wireless communications is possible without using additional cables or a PCMCIA card.

Furthermore, by connecting to a computer, datta, documents and personal information stored in the computer can be transferred and saved in 'InfoMobile.' And, vice versa.

Because 'InfoMobile' uses the most developed technology, such as a 'Lithium-Ion' battery, its standby and talk times are over 40 hours and 2 hours, respectively. In addition, the battery can be quickly recharged through a car battery while driving or through cables while stationary.

Additional strengths include its compact design, making it easy to carry around. Its voice memory feature receives messages while talking, and there are back lights on each handphone and secondary PC for use in the dark.

'InfoMobile' will be released simultaneously with the start of CDMA and cellular operator's wireless data services.
