SAMSUNG Multicampus Opens E-Campus America

There is now a distance learning site familiar to overseas Koreans
Samsung Multicampus, an IT educational institute (Head Manager Byung-soo Ryu www.multicampus.co.kr), announced on May 17 that its distance learning site, eCampus (www.e-Campus.co.kr) is opening e-CampusAmerica (www.e-CampusAmerica.com) for ethnic Koreans in the US and begins services for the second and third generation Koreans who are not fluent in Korean.

e-Campus is a portal site specializing in education that entered the distance learning market with the opening of a cyber multicampus in 1998. It currently provides more than 250 programs including those in IT technology, business management and foreign language education to 120,000 annualized paying members. In addition to providing distance learning services, the scope of e-Campus covers the entire range of distance education from application services, educational contents production to distance education management platform construction.

The newly opened e-CampusAmerica will provide various educational programs owned by its parent company, e-Campus to Koreans in the US, and they have been adapted for those not fluent in Korean by providing English as well as Korean. Operational efficiency of the site has also improved thanks to the application of eduport, a distance learning site management solution developed by Samsung SDS earlier this year.

For Koreans in the US, e-CampusAmerica will provide more than 200 programs in the following three major areas: ▶ IT education including professional courses on Java, Linux and UNIX, ▶ business management including cyber MBA and ▶ foreign languages such as English, Japanese, Chinese and French.

Furthermore, e-CampusAmerica will provide an opportunity for the second and third generation Koreans to become familiar with Korean culture on the Internet through cooperation with Korean cultural contents provider Korea Insight (www.koreainsight.com). At the same time, e-CampusAmerica will form an alliance with NetG, a world leader in IT contents, to gain an entry into the US distance learning market as well as providing educational services in a format that is specific to the local trend.

Sung-Ho Lee, Manager at Samsung Multicampus, said, he will be providing online educational services to overseas Koreans based on years of experience in the educational contents business. He added that Samsung Multicampus will soon open e-CampusChina and e-CampusJapan in addition to e-CampusAmerica to rapidly expand distance learning for overseas Koreans.
