SHI wins over US$200 million in shipbuilding

SHI has recently won a total of US$2.6 billion in orders including the two container ships from OOCL ltd in Hong Kong , which is known as the 8th largest container ship builder, and one AFRA-Max oil tanker from Chevron in U.S.

The container ship that Samsung is building for OOCL is going to be the world's largest with the scale of 7,400TEU (loads 7,400 20-feet containers). The ships are scheduled to be delivered in 1st half of 2004.

Since it had pulled in six consecutive orders of same model from OOCL this year alone,

In the meanwhile, the Chevron order of two 105,000-ton AFRA-Max oil tankers will also be delivered by early 2004 as an option. Including the eight earlier ships such as shuttle tankers and VLCC's plus the recent order of this year, Chevron and Samsung have dealt a total of US$600 million in business since 1996.

On this account, SHI has already accomplished 60% of its annual shipbuilding business goal Samsung also maintains the highest record in shipbuilding history with its US$570 million in orders secured for the next three years.
