SAMSUNG Electronics Opens a Home Network Showroom in Spain--Europe's First

SEOUL, Korea - December 4th Samsung Electronics and Telefonica, Spain's largest telecommunications operator, have announced the joint opening of a home network showroom in downtown Madrid. Here, local consumers have an opportunity to experience home network services first hand.

The showroom is an extension of a joint ADSL project started with Telefonica last May. That project encompasses home networks, PCs, and the Hot Spot Service. (This service involves the installation of wireless LANs in airports, universities, offices and other environments with high user density. PDAs, notebook PCs and other terminals are connected to the wireless LAN to provide always on access to the Internet.) The new showroom paves the way for the two companies to cooperate continuously in the home network business and other future-oriented digital areas.
The showroom opening ceremony was accompanied with an official announcement of Telefonica's Casa (home) Digital vision, a model for digital services of the future. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including reporters from local and foreign broadcasting companies, newspapers and magazines. The event received a great deal of attention in Spain.

After the press conference, many of the people who took part in the home network demonstrations at the showroom said they were excited by Samsung's total solutions and felt like they were in future reality. Mr. Sang Heung Shin, President of SESA, said, "This cooperation with Telefonica serves as a bridgehead into the European market. We plan to work closely together in the home network business for the long term, marketing ADSL-related solutions".

In addition, a Telefonica spokesperson added, "We were very impressed by Samsung at the Samsung World Tour held in Paris. No other company makes world-class products that encompass the entire electronics spectrum telecommunications, audio-video, information technology, consumer electronics and home automation. Samsung is the most suitable partner for Telefonica, as we transform into a digital company of the future".
