SAMSUNG Electronics Introduces Smart Phone With Integrated Wireless Web, Voice and Location Service Functions

Las Vegas, January 9, 2003 - Samsung Electronics today introduces the SPH-i500, a PalmOS-based MIT (Mobile Intelligent Terminal) at the international Consumer Electronics Show (CES2003) in Las Vegas. The SPH-i500, which is 3G-enabled (CDMA 2000 1X) PalmOS4.1-based wireless handset, features very compact clamshell form factor with the Graffiti area separated from the main display. It allows consumers to communicate with friends, family and business associates, by both voice, text, and data, and do so wirelessly.

Ideal for consumers and business users alike, the SPH-i500 can serve as a fully portable all-in-one wireless Web terminal, as it has built-in communication applications, such as a WAP browser and supports various third-party Web browsers and email applications. In addition, the SPH-i500 has a built in gpsOne support, addressing consumers security and safety needs.

"This new mobile phone represents an enormous step toward a new era of wireless Web communications," said Sang Jin Park, Executive Vice President, Telecommunication Network Business of Samsung Electronics. "Due to the built-in gpsOne position location solution, the handset addresses E-911 needs by serving as a location determination device, with appropriate service or application usage."

Considering that SPH-i500 has the dimensions 54 x 87 x 21.5 mm when folded, its long list of features is truly impressive. The handset consists of a 65k color-capable TFT LCD screen, dual touch screen panels - both display and graffiti areas - Easy Text Input, voice activated dialing and voice memo, and 16 polyphonic sounds. It is a fully-fledged Palm PDA, compatible with all Palm applications.
