At CES 2014, SAMSUNG Adds Games Panel to its Smart TV Lineup

LAS VEGAS – Jan. 7, 2014 – Samsung Electronics today unveiled its ‘Smart Hub Games Panel’ at the 2014 International CES, as part of its plans to strengthen the TV-based gaming ecosystem. Samsung aims to provide its users with a new gaming experience and allow game developers to use Smart TV as another channel to introduce the latest games.

“We made our first step in establishing a new gaming environment by using the Samsung Smart TV network,” said Youngchan Kim, Vice President of the Service Product Manager Group of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “Samsung Smart TV’s Games Panel is always open to all developers, and users will be able to enjoy a variety of fun games on their TV screens.”

The Smart Hub is Samsung Smart TV’s dedicated UI consisting of five panels, each of which provides a wide array of content For Samsung’s 2014 Smart TVs, one of these five panels has been redesigned as a Games Panel to offer a selection of games that consumers can enjoy on their TVs.

Partnering with global gaming companies including Electronic Arts (EA) and Gameloft, as well as Korean companies including Hanbitsoft, Com2usNFUN and MOMO, Samsung will present consumers with 10 new, exciting games well matched to large, high-def TVs. Through Games Panel, Samsung will bring Hanbitsoft’s ‘World in Audition’ – the latest version of a popular online dancing game that has been downloaded over 900 million times – and NFUN’s ‘Sky Chaser’ – an immersive, low-flying, shooting game – as well as EA’sMonopoly to users’ living rooms.

Consumers can easily play games by using the buttons or a touch pad on the TV’s remote control,or a smartphone. In the future, users will also be able to engage in various interactions such as cooperative and competitive game play, and share gifts with other gamers by using the Smart TV’s networking capabilities. Additionally, Games Panel displays high resolution images for game titles, making it more pleasant and easy for users to navigate. Furthermore, users can conveniently view game trailers by simply moving the cursor over the titles’ cover images.

Samsung will launch Games Panel in select countries including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France this year. Samsung will also continue to secure high-quality content and partner with leading game companies around the world.
