SAMSUNG Electronics Establishes Foothold in Brazilian CDMA Handset Market

Seoul, South Korea - November, 18, 1998 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. officially announced that they have received a total of US $40 million in orders for CDMA cellular phones from Brazil's two cellular service providers.
his meant that the company had secured a foothold in Latin America along with the North America, Asia and Middle East for wireless handsets.

TELESP Cellular, the largest designated cellular service provider in Brazil, concluded an agreement to buy US $25 million worth of the Samsung SCH-210 cellular phone. oreover, the nation's the second largest service provider, TELERJ had agreed to buy US $15 million worth of the Samsung's SCH-411 model.
he two biggest Brazilian cellular service provider decided to use Samsung products as their line-up because of excellent quality and outstanding design.

The small and light SCH-210 cellular phone being delivered to TELESP Cellular are designed to display messages in Portuguese.
On the other hand, the SCH-411 model to be supplied to TELERJ come with a graphic LCD and Voice-activated dialing as well as EVRC technology that ensures outstanding call quality. oth models also offer a variety of supplementary functions such as short message service, voice mail, three way call, call forwarding and etc..

Brazil has a population of 160 million and is expected to be one of the world's three largest nation to use CDMA technology as its standard for wireless communications.
s such, growth potential in this market is enormous, so competition to penetrate this market has been severe.

Peru was the first Latin American country to launch CDMA cellular service, and Korean makers of CDMA handsets have grabbed part of that market.
oupled with Samsung's latest success in Brazil, sales of Korean-made CDMA handsets are expected to expand throughout the entire region.

Samsung Electronics has already been recognized for its outstanding CDMA technology in Korea, the US, China, Hong Kong and Israel.
