Olympic Rendezvous @ SAMSUNG In Piazza Solferino Hosts 250,000 Fans In First Week

Torino, February 21, 2006 - Since officially opening on February 7, the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S) has welcomed 250,000 visitors to its pavilion.  Located in Piazza Solferino and designated the “Official Meeting Place for Athletes and their Families,” the OR@S is the centerpiece of Samsung’s on-site programs for fans and athletes in Torino.

“We are pleased to see so many fans and athletes visiting OR@S to relax, experiment with our products and the latest mobile technology, and enjoy our facility during the first week of the Torino Games,” said Samsung Vice Chairman and CEO Jong-Yong Yun. “We welcome more fans and athletes to come visit and connect with their friends and families around the world.”

The 1,225 square meters pavilion features the athlete center for Olympic competitors and their families, and the spectator center, which is open to the public.  More than 1,027 athletes, their families and friends have visited the OR@S, and participated in the “Share the Experience” program, which provides athletes with free phone calls to keep in touch with friends and family around the world.  In addition, 542 Olympians have signed the Book of Peace, an album featuring photos of Olympic teams that will be presented as a sign of friendship and goodwill to the International Olympic Committee.

“I am overwhelmed by the excitement and warm welcome I received from fans at the OR@S,” said the Italian skiing legend and Samsung Global Athlete Ambassador, Alberto Tomba. “I encourage more athletes to come to the OR@S to meet the great fans and spectators. Thanks to Samsung, you can also make free phone calls to your loved ones wherever they may be,” he said.

Samsung recognized the 250,000th visitor, Cristina de Benedetti from Torino and Gyehyun Kwon, Vice President and Head of Worldwide Sport Marketing and Global Communications of Samsung presented her with an official Olympic Games phone, SGH-D600. “I was very surprised when I heard that I was the 250,000th visitor – said Cristina - I have been to the OR@S already 3 times with my son Luca: we live not far from Piazza Solferino and he really likes all the phones displayed. Maybe my loyalty to the OR@S just rewarded me!”

Highlights of activities taking place at the OR@S this past week include:
