SAMSUNG Presents Full Variety of Memory Solutions at IDF

PALM SPRINGS, CA, February 14, 2000 - Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., the fourth-largest semiconductor manufacturer worldwide, will be presenting the full variety of leading-edge memory technologies at the Intel Developers` Forum here from February 15 through 17. Samsung has chosen to highlight its commitment to customer needs by showcasing the three leading memory technologies: RDRAM?, PC133 SDRAM and DDR SDRAM. Samsung is the only memory manufacturer to be in full production with all three technologies, offering its customers a wider choice to suit their individual needs.

Samsung will be showing two complete working systems: one with an 800MHz 128Mb Samsung RDRAM memory module in an Intel 820-based system, the other with 1-GB of Samsung SDRAM memory, made up of 36 pieces of 256Mbit SDRAM, operating in a PC133-based system. Samsung was first to ramp up state-of-the-art 0.18 micron 256Mb SDRAM memory components and modules to mass production levels in March, 1999, leading the competition by over six months. With the same package footprint as 64M and 128M SDRAMs, the 256M SDRAM is well suited for use in servers, workstation and high-performance PCs.

Samsung is again demonstrating its lead in the Rambus? revolution with a full display of RDRAM components and modules, including an 800MHz 128M RDRAM-based working system. Samsung was the first semiconductor manufacturer to begin RDRAM mass production, the first with 64-, 128- and 256M-byte RIMM samples validated by Intel, and the first with 72-, 128- and 144Mbit validated Rambus DRAM components. It was also the first to offer 288Mbit RDRAM components and 576MB RIMM modules. Samsung is currently ramping RDRAM production to 2 million pieces per month to satisfy demand.`As the fourth-largest semiconductor manufacturer, we are the only one to offer the full range of DRAM memories to our customers,` stated H. J. Kim, president and CEO of Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. in San Jose.
