SAMSUNG SDS Exports Software to Chinese Market

Samsung SDS speeds up its efforts to advance into the Chinese IT market. Samsung SDS became the first Korean software developer to offer its products to Chinese companies, attracting attention from competitors and the media. Previously, Samsung SDS established a world-class R & D center in Beijing, China, to develop software tailored for the Chinese market. Samsung SDS (CEO: Kim, Hong-Ki) announced on August 1 that it signed contracts with Qingdao Aucma Stock Company, a leading Chinese home appliance maker, and Degussa China Co., a chemical company, to provide its ERP solution "UniERP." This contract is meaningful in that Samsung SDS became the first Korean company to provide ERP solutions to Chinese companies. Under these contracts, Samsung SDS will offer Acuma Stock Company systems consulting services, leverage a UniERP package to accommodate 100 users, and build a uniERP system linking the company's 28 operations across China. According to an official of Samsung SDS, "UniERP's Chinese version was already introduced in March last year through an aggressive marketing strategies. The recent contracts with Chinese companies are meaningful in that we made contributions to improving the image of Korean products among the Chinese, who are frequently reluctant to use foreign products, by introducing Chinese-friendly software which meets the needs of the Chinese market. It was possible through the company's consistent efforts and accumulated know-how." "Although global leading ERP solution providers like SAP and Oracle maintain positions in the Chinese market, they haven't yet come up with the solutions tailored to Chinese needs. Samsung SDS's successful contracts with Chinese companies will pave the way for Korean companies to make inroads into the Chinese market," he added. Samsung SDS is poised to position itself firmly in the Chinese market, using the contracts as a stepping stone. It plans to set up operations in every province across China and establish a technology development center to expand its market share there by upgrading existing solutions and providing technology training and education programs. Samsung SDS and Qingdao Aucma Stock Company held a working-level launch meeting on July 21, attended by Kang Su-shin, senior account executive in the Chinese company, Chun Hwa-jae, president of the software business unit of Samsung SDS, and 200 workers from the two companies. At the launch meeting, the two companies committed themselves to cooperate in building new ERP solutions. Qingdao Aucma Stock Company, founded in 1987, is China's No. 1 home appliance maker focusing on refrigerators. It enjoys annual revenues of $1.2 billion (170 billion won). It is a very promising company, which is recording significant annual growth of 200 percent and was designated as one of China's top-flight companies by the Chinese government. To meet the expected needs in the Linux market, Samsung SDS plans to preoccupy the market by developing Linux versions of its solutions including ERP and Groupware and providing them at a lower price. These consistent efforts to nurture and utilize Chinese IT personnel will make contributions to supporting IT evelopment in China.
