Under the Leadership of Chunchon City, the K-cash Project is Expected to Promote Information Technology Businesses in Chunchon

Chunchon transforms into cyber city Samsung SDS (CEO, Kim Hong-Ki) said on September 15 that it signed a contract under which it, along with the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute and Korea Telecom, will participate in the "Cyber city Chunchon" project, being led by Chunchon city, as a solution provider for electronic money, dubbed K-cash Under the project plan for "Cyber city Chunchon", designed to make Chunchon a model city in the use of electronic money, all commercial banks in Chunchon will issue electronic money called K-cash and distribute smart cards to the citizens starting in November. In addition, the project is expected to encourage citizens to conduct electronic transactions over homepages, which will be provided to every family in Chunchon, and to use administrative services offered by Chunchon City through the homepages. With the K-cash card, Chunchon citizens will be able to shop, use transportation systems and make payments. Citizens will be encouraged to use the Internet and conduct e-commerce in their daily life as the cards can be restored through the Internet similar to the way used bus cards are recharged currently. "While previous electronic money test services were focused on payment functions of the cards, the Cyber city Chunchon project is designed to encourage citizens to actively use the Internet and enhance the e-commerce environment," said an official of Chunchon city. "If the project turns out to be a successful way to promote information technology businesses, other cities are expected to follow suit." Under the leadership of Chunchon city, Samsung SDS will participate in the Cyber city Chunchon project as a solution provider for the K-cash electronic money while Korea Telecom, the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute and MIRAEcity.com will take part as high-speed Internet service provider, payment system operator and content developer respectively. On September 15, a signing ceremony for the project was held, attended by Bae Kye-sub, mayor of Chunchon city, Kim Hong-ki, CEO of Samsung SDS, Kim Young-dae, chairman of KFTC, Cho Wan-haeng, chief director of KT's Kangwon office, and Lee Kwang-se, president of MIRAEcity.com.
