Verizon Wireless Cell Phones: What Are The Required Steps To Upgrade To DF14 For My SCH-i910 Omnia On Windows Vista or Windows 7?

* * *IMPORTANT***

  • Before Downloading End User Upgrade Tool, please read all documentation.

Samsung has released a software upgrade for the SCH-i910, which is recommended to be installed. This update includes numerous software additions/enhancements/corrections. The upgrade may take up to 10 minutes to complete if the system is already set up.

This upgrade contains several enhancements and features. Highlights are listed below.

  • Qualcomm patch is applied to address Intermittent EV-DO Rev A MAPE Failure in Good Coverage.
    • CR  80-N1047-1 A Intermittent EV-DO Rev A MAPE Failure in Good Coverage [CR225794] .

You Will be Unable to Use the SCH-i910 During the Upgrade Process.


Software Upgrade Tool For Windows Vista & Windows 7 Operating System

This Upgrade Tool will Only Function on Operating Systems Running x32 bit Microsoft Windows Vista (Home, Premium, Ultimate and Business) and Windows 7.

1.  Click here to go to the SCH-i910 Vista/Windows 7 Upgrade Tool

2.  Click Save and save the file to a specified location.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Upgrade Process Will Erase ALL User Data From The Device.  
 Please Ensure that All Critical Information has Been Backed Up Before Applying this Upgrade.

  • Any installed programs and/or updates will need to be re-installed after applying this upgrade.
  • This Upgrade Tool is Not Compatible with any Other Product.

 


Update Process Overview

  • Installation of Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
  • Backup Data from the SCH-I910 to the Computer Using Windows Mobile Device Center
  • Downloading of the Software Upgrade to the Phone
  • Verification of the Phone's Software Version

Step One:
Install
Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) On The Computer

Step Two:
Backup Data From The SCH-i910 To The Computer Using Windows Mobile Device Center

  1. Attach the USB cable from the computer to the handset. You may see notifications indicating device driver installation. This is normal.  
  2. If not previously done, create a standard partnership between the computer and the SCH-i910.
  3. Select the items you wish to backup, and then allow the synchronization to complete.
  4. When synchronization is complete and the selected data has been verified to have been successfully synchronized into Microsoft Outlook, Continue to step three.

If you utilize File Encryption on the handset, please ensure data is relocated off the device and card to a desktop PC. Otherwise, there is no way to recover the cipher key after the flash thus your data can no longer be read.


Step Three:
Begin Software Update Process

  1. Please close all open programs.
  2. Start the Upgrade Software by double clicking the SCH-i910 User upgrade tool v2.0.0.5.
  3. Read over the EULA, accept the terms, and click Next.

  5. Please read “What You Need to Know” section and proceed by clicking Continue.

  7. Please verify that all user data has been backed up and proceed by clicking Continue.

  9. Since we have backed up all desired data previously, we can continue with the update. Click Yes.

  11. Please perform all steps outlined below. The Upgrade will start when you reset your device.

  13. The SCH-i910 is being updated to DF14, actual upgrade  time will vary depending upon local conditions however it may take up to 10 minutes to complete (Your handset may be inoperable if you Disconnect /Power Off your Handset or Stop the Upgrade  Process while installation is in progress).

  15. The upgrade has now been completed. Click on the Finish to terminate the Upgrade Tool.  The SCH-I910 will automatically reboot. .

  17. At this time your handset should be synced with Windows Mobile Device Center to restore previously saved data.
    • Control Panel/ Windows Mobile Device Center/ Mobile Device settings/ Connection settings. Verify "Allow USB connections" is checked.

When your device reboots sucessfully, the upgrade procedure is nearly finished. 


Step Four:
Verifying The SCH-I910 Software Version

After completion of the DF14 upgrade, please verify the software on the phone is accurate.

  • To check the software version on the handset, click Start > Settings > System > Version
  • The ROM version should show S:i910.10 V.DC22.20961
  • The Modem version should show S:i910.10 V.DF14

  • The Upgrade Does Not Work On My PC. What can I do?
    • Please uninstall all Samsung Drivers from your PC and restart the Upgrade process.
  • Is The Upgrade For My SCH-i910 Free Of Charge?
    • At this time, the update is free for SCH-i910.
  • How Long Will The Upgrade Be Available For Free On My SCH-i910?
    • Currently, there is no plan to remove the upgrade after this initial release.
  • If I Have Problems Updating My SCH-i910, Can I Take It To My Local Verizon Wireless Store?
    • Samsung Technical Care & Verizon Wireless are here to help with the upgrade. Please contact 888-987-4357 or 800-922-0204 respectively.
  • If I Decide I Do Not Like The Update For My SCH-i910, Can I Reload The Previous Software?
    • It is not recommended to regress backwards to a previous software load.  Any attempts to perform a regression may render the handset inoperable.
  • Can The Upgrade Process Be Completed Using x64-bit Microsoft Operating Systems?
    • Currently, the Upgrade Process is not compatible with x64 bit Microsoft operating systems.
  • What Can I Do If The Upgrade Tool Cannot Establish A Communication With My Mobile Device?
    1. Ensure device is turned on.
    2. Plug the USB cable into the computer and connect the other end to the phone.
    3. Change the Windows Mobile Device Center settings.
      1. Open the connection settings menu.
        •  /Control Panel/ Windows Mobile Device/Connection settings
      2. Ensure a checkmark is located in the box for Allow USB Connections.
    4. Troubleshooting
      1. If you cannot connect to Windows Mobile Device Center after performing the instructions above, please try the following steps below.
        • Remove the data cable from the phone and reconnect it.
        • Remove the data cable from the computer and reconnect it into a different USB port.
        • Power cycle the handset. (OFF/ON)
