What is CMAS? The Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) is a partnership between FEMA, the FCC, and wireless carriers, whose purpose is to enhance public safety. CMAS enables alerting authorities to use FEMA's IPAWS OPEN platform to send text-like alerts to the public via their wireless handsets, based on a mobile device's geographic location. CMAS will relay Presidential, AMBER, and Imminent Threat alerts to mobile phones using new technology that will not be backlogged during times of emergency when networks are highly congested. Android OS upgrade to 2.3.6.
