Transferring Music from a PC

Your mobile device can transfer music using the Samsung Kies software for your PC, via Kies air on your device, using Windows® Media Player, or via drag and drop using Windows® Explorer. Your mobile device supports the following file formats: AAC, AAC+, AC-3, AMR(NB), AMR(WB), eAAC+, EVRC, EVRC-B, FLAC, MIDI, MP3, OGG, QCELP, WAV, WMA, and XMF.

Kies for PC

You can download the Kies software by visiting the Kies website.

  1. Open the Samsung Kies software.
  2. Connect your device to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
  3. Your device should connect automatically and show in the left panel of Kies. You may need to change the USB settings if you cannot connect; swipe your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom to open the Notification Panel and touch Connected as a camera. Touch Media device (MTP) to change the USB settings. The Notification Panel should show Connected as a media device, as shown in the screenshot below.

  4. Click Music under your Library.

  5. Mark the music files you want to transfer to your device and then click Kies Transfer to device.

  6. If a memory card is present, Kies will ask you to select Internal memory or External memory.

  8. The selected music files will now be on your device. Open the Music Player on your device to begin playback.

Kies air

The Kies air application is a device management suite that allows you to manage the content and personal information stored on your mobile device. The application creates a wireless connection between your device and any computer that has a web browser, making management easier and more accessible.

If Kies air is not preloaded on your device, you can install it from the Google Play™ Store. Open Google Play Store from your mobile device and search for Kies air.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps   > Kies air .
  2. Touch Start to initiate the connection.
  3. Kies air will now display a URL that can be used to browse your device. On another device, open the browser. Then type the URL in the browser's address bar.

  5. A random PIN is generated on the device.
  6. Enter the requested PIN into the browser window and click OK.
  7. The two devices should now be connected. You will see your device listed on the left panel of Kies air.
  8. Click Music under your device name.

  9. Click Upload > Upload. Choose Settings to change the default save location on your device. Click Save this location to save changes.

  10. Navigate to your music folder and select the file(s).

  12. Click OK to begin transferring.
  13. The selected music files will now be on your device. Open the Music Player on your device to begin playback.

Windows Media® Player

You can transfer music to your device using Windows Media Player on Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

  1. Connect your device to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
  2. Open Windows Media Player and click the Sync tab on the right. Your device should be shown in the sync screen.
  3. Drag the music tracks you want to sync to your device to the sync list on the right. When you have added all of the tracks, click the Start sync option at the top of the screen.
  4. When the synchronization is complete, you can disconnect the cable from either your computer or your device.

Drag and Drop Using Windows Explorer

In this example, we are using Windows 7. Accessing your device from your computer using Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP) mode is similar to accessing a USB mass storage device.

  1. Connect your device to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
  2. A window will automatically open on your computer. Click Open device to view files option.

  3. Note: You can also open Windows Explorer by clicking Start, typing Explorer in the search box, and pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. On older versions of Windows, you can click Start and then click Run and type Explorer to open Windows Explorer.

  4. Open the folder containing the music you want to transfer to your device.
  5. In the left panel of Explorer, click the arrow next to your device. Then click the arrow next to Phone or Card. You should now see the Music folder.
  6. Click and drag the music tracks to the Music folder on your device. In the example below, we are dragging the entire Music Files folder. You can drag and drop folders or individual music files to the Music folder on your device.

Note: You may be prompted to Convert and Copy if the file(s) you are copying are not supported by the device.
