SAMSUNG Introduces Latest in Wireless, Digital Sound and Audio

NEW YORK - September 16, 2003 - Continuing its tradition of leadership and innovation
in consumer electronics, SAMSUNG Electronics today unveils three remarkable
new technologies at DigitAll Inspiration 2003: the SAMSUNG Home Media Center,
the Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSeTM), and the Digital Natural Image engine
(DNIeTM). Geared toward enhancing the home entertainment experience, these innovative
technologies bring wireless freedom, more accurate and natural sound, and clearer
and more detailed images to multimedia and home entertainment devices.

The SAMSUNG Home Media Center facilitates multimedia content sharing among various
audio-visual equipment in any room in the home over a wired or wireless connection.
DNSe creates more realistic and natural reproduction of audio signals from SAMSUNG’s
audio and video products. Finally, DNIe lets digital TVs (LCD, PDP, projection
or CRT) produce the clearest, most detailed and most natural-looking images

The SAMSUNG Home Media Center makes it easier than ever to record, share and
play back multimedia content anywhere in the home. As a perfect complement to
the Media Center, upcoming SAMSUNG audio and video devices incorporating DNSe
and DNIe will deliver better quality content than ever before.
More about SAMSUNG Home Media Center
SAMSUNG Home Media Center

SAMSUNG Home Media Center is an all-in-one digital home server with an integrated
digital set-top box, broadband Internet access, a Personal Video Recording (PVR)
device for connection to digital televisions, electronic program guide and DVD/CD
player. Now, consumers have the ability to share a variety of multimedia content
among AV and IT devices within the home.

The unit incorporates an x86 CPU, a corresponding chipset, and 128MB (expandable
up to 256MB) SDRAM, and comes with a 80GB hard drive, 16x DVD-ROM, dual USB
slots, infrared receiver and digital audio outputs. It also offers MemoryStick
TM expandability. The SAMSUNG Home Media Center runs on an imbedded Linux OS
supporting Universal Plug and Play.

Other features include support for 802.11a or 802.11b wireless networking, Ethernet
wired networking, IEEE1394 (Firewire) networking, or optional HPNA, so consumers
can share content with other devices in the home wirelessly, such as HDTV broadcast
content streamed to other digital televisions. In addition, images, audio files
or video clips saved on your computer can be accessed via the SAMSUNG Home Media
Center and then streamed to a television, PDA, laptop computer or other device
of choice.More information about availability and pricing will be provided at
a later date.
More about Digital Natural Sound engine(DNSe)

This new-concept sound engine guarantees a more accurate and natural sound in
any home listening environment. SAMSUNG’s DNSe, which was developed after years
of research on audio DSP and acoustics, yields higher quality sound with more
natural effects than conventional methods do. DNSe, with its Speaker & Room
Correction function, first analyzes the frequency response of the speaker itself,
as well as the acoustic characteristics of the room, to optimize sound quality
and compensate for any sound deficiency.

Then the Virtual Surround function of DNSe reproduces the complex sonic cues
necessary to locate the precise origin of sound information. Previous virtual
technologies utilized only a portion of these critical cues ? resulting in less
effective virtual sound. However SAMSUNG’s DNSe, coupled with Dolby Virtual
SpeakerTM technology, provides a rich, involving, and true-to-life surround
sound experience using only two speakers.

DNSe also employs Dynamic Range Control, an algorithm that enhances the signal
level dynamically to reduce the audible distortion, which can occur when audio
signals are increased beyond the power limit of the audio amplifier.

Offering more realistic and natural reproduction of audio signals, SAMSUNG’s
DNSe technology will be incorporated in all of its audio and video products
with built-in speakers. More information on these devices will be available
at a later date.
More about Digital Natural Image engine(DNIe)

Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) is a set of advanced image processing technologies
that make all digital TV types (LCD, PDP, projection and CRT) produce the clearest,
most detailed and most natural-looking images ever. The technology has been
in development by SAMSUNG since 1996.

A four-phase process, DNIe employs an Intelligent Analyzer that evaluates all
input signals to optimize picture quality. Analysis of the input signal frequency
characteristics automatically identifies the source as analogue, SD, or HD,
and even determines whether it has been scaled. Thus, the Intelligent Analyzer
ensures the optimal adjustments are made throughout the remaining four stages
to the production of the final output. DNIe will be soon incorporated into a
wide range of SAMSUNG video products. More information on these devices will
be available at a later date.
