SAMSUNG Spreads Spirit for Torino 2006 with Launch of Olympic Torch Relay in Rome on December 8th

December 5th, 2005 (Rome, Italy) : Straight from
the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Greece, the Olympic Torch has arrived
in Rome to begin its dramatic, 64-day journey through the country of Italy.
The Relay begins December 8, 2005 and concludes February 10, 2006 at the
Opening Ceremony of the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. 10,001 torchbearers
will carry the Olympic Flame through all regions and provinces of Italy,
covering approximately 11,300 km..

The Olympic Torch Relay presents a unique opportunity for fans to witness
the most prestigious sporting symbol, the Olympic Flame, up close and
in person. For Torino 2006, Samsung is providing more than 1,900 people
from around the world once-in-a-lifetime experience to run with the Olympic
Flame. The company selected world-class athletes, celebrities and inspiring
individuals, who embody the Olympic spirit, from thousands of sport fans
who applied to various selection promotions from all over the world.

Alberto Tomba, Samsung's Global Athlete Ambassador, will
promote the Relay by participating in city celebrations throughout Italy.
Said Tomba: "I want to congratulate all of the torchbearers on being
part of a historic moment in our beautiful country." He added, "Thank
you for bringing your enthusiasm and spirit to this extraordinary event.
We will never forget you!"

Running for Samsung in Rome are: Franz Klammer, the "Ski-Imperator"
who dominated the field of classic alpine skiing in the mid 70s and early
80s and topped his success with the Olympic gold medal in 1976 in Innsbruck
from Austria and Elisabeta Lipa, five-time Olympic Gold
Medalist in rowing from Romania - the only woman to hold five Olympic
gold medals. And from Italy: Lavinia Biagiotti, Junior
Vice President of Biagiotti Group and the first ever fashion designer
invited sport athletes to fashion runaways; Roberto Vittori,
colonel of the Italian Air Force and astronaut of European Space Agency
(ESA) who has logged nearly 2000 hours in over 40 different aircrafts

Samsung will host hundreds of citizens representing many different countries
in various cities throughout in Italy. For example, torchbearers selected
from U.S., Vietnam and Singapore will appear in Florence, Australians
and New Zealanders and will run in Venice, Turkish and Iranians will go
to Palermo. Russian and Ukrainian torchbearers will be in Liguria region,
between La Spezia and Genova. Runners from Denmark, Norway, Finland and
Sweden will be in Bologna. There will also be representatives from Portugal,
United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Canada, South
Africa, Mexico, Thailand, and Indonesia.

The company also selected over 1,300 torchbearers among Italians to celebrate
the journey of the Olympic Flame in their own country as well as global
citizens. Italian torchbearers who embody the Olympic Spirit are selected
from a variety of selection promotions and excited to run all over the
Italian peninsula.

Samsung will generate enthusiasm in each relay route city with promotional
activities including high-tech caravans, opportunities for the public
to experience the official Olympic Games phones for Torino 2006, appearances
of Athlete Ambassador, Alberto Tomba, and city celebrations in cooperation
with TOROC. Stops are planned in historic towns like Rome, Florence, Venice
and Palermo, a New Year’s party in Naples, and a celebration in Cortina
d’Ampezzo to mark the 50th anniversary of 1956 Olympic Winter Games.

Jong Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics,

For the first time, Samsung is also providing Torch Relay organizers with
thousands of official Olympic Games phones, which features the state-of-the-art
mobile information service, Wireless Olympic Works (WOW),
which supplies up-to-the-minute information and group messaging capabilities
to help manage the Relay. The route information, information about torchbearers,
highlight videos and photos of the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay will
be served through WOW service. For Torino 2006, the official Olympic Games
phone is the SGH-D600, Samsung’s latest flagship handset.
The SGH-D600 is an upgraded version of the hugely popular D500 series,
the winner of several prestigious awards including the Best Mobile Handset
2005 for excellence in handset design and innovation by the GSMA, the
global trade association for the world's Global System for Mobile Communications
(GSM) operator community.
