Samsung Australia launches its first 3D V-NAND SSD
SYDNEY, Australia – 12 September, 2014 –  Samsung Australia today announced the local availability of the 850 PRO, a new solid state drive (SSD) line-up featuring Samsung's cutting-edge three-dimensional vertical NAND (3D V-NAND) flash memory technology. The new Samsung 850 PRO offers a new breed of performance and reliability for Samsung’s SSD portfolio – backed with a 10 year warranty1. "Today, Samsung introduces the next major evolution of SSD technology in Australia with the 850 PRO SSD. The new proprietary 3D V-NAND technology solidifies Samsung’s position as a leader in SSD technology by offering high performance and endurance that is backed by a 10 year warranty1,” said Todd Lynton, Director – Business Solutions, Samsung Electronics Australia. “We know the 850 PRO will satisfy Australian enthusiasts and gamers that demand the fastest seek and transfer times in their applications,” he added.
Utilising Samsung’s proprietary 3D V-NAND technology
Samsung's 3D V-NAND technology features a proprietary vertical cell structure, representing a breakthrough in overcoming the density limit currently facing planar (2D) NAND architecture used in conventional flash memory. This delivers speed, endurance and energy efficiency improvements. The new 3D V-NAND-based SSDs have higher endurance for writing data and consume less power, compared to planar (2D) MLC NAND-based drives. The Samsung 850 PRO delivers fast access and transfer speeds, as well as exceptional endurance (150TB), offering the highest level of performance for SATA III (6GB/s) SSDs. Its sequential read performance reaches up to 550 megabytes per second (MB/s), with write performance of up to 520MB/s. Random read performance is up to 100,000 input/output operations-per-second (IOPS), with write speeds of up to 90,000 IOPS. The increased performance allows for faster transfer of data (especially large photo and video files) to improve computing experience.

Each drive will also contain a copy of the Samsung Magician SSD Toolkit and Data Migration software so Australian customers can transition from their existing drive to their new Samsung SSD. The Samsung Magician SSD Toolkit is also designed to help users easily manage the health and performance of their Samsung SSD. In addition to providing vital SSD health status information, Magician will assist users in updating firmware, measuring performance, and optimising the configuration of a Windows operating system installation.

The Samsung 850 PRO SSD range is now available to purchase at all approved Samsung stockists. They will be available in 128GB ($189 RRP), 256GB ($379 RRP), 512GB ($749 RRP) and 1TB ($999 RRP) storage capacities with a 10 year warranty1. For more information, please visit
