Samsung TV - Connecting a Soundbar Using HDMI (ARC)

If your TV supports ARC (Audio Return Channel), you can connect your TV and soundbar using an HDMI cable, so audio from your connected devices will play on the soundbar. ARC is easy to use, and you will enjoy excellent sound quality.

Note: The provided information refers to TVs sold in Canada. The available settings and options may differ for devices sold in other countries.

Connect your Soundbar to your TV with ARC

Follow the steps below to connect your ARC TV to the soundbar:

1 Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the soundbar.
2 Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the ARC HDMI IN port on your TV.
3 Power on any external device connected to your TV, and then power on your TV and soundbar. Press the SOURCE button on the right side of the soundbar or on the remote control to select the D.IN mode. ARC is activated in D.IN mode and D.IN will be displayed on the front display.
Specific Troubleshooting for your Soundbar with ARC
  • If you have no audio when using ARC, press the Anynet button on your soundbar’s remote once and then twice to toggle the Anynet function on or off. Anynet must be set to ON for ARC to work.
  • The TV audio settings must be set to external speaker to receive audio through the soundbar. For information on changing this setting, please consult the user manual for your TV.
  • When using ARC, you must power off the TV first and then the soundbar will power off automatically. If you power off the soundbar first, the TV will stay on and the audio will be output through the TV speakers. You can use either the TV or soundbar remote to power off both devices. This is only available when the soundbar is connected to a Samsung TV.
Troubleshooting - Power Cycle

If you’re running into glitches, you can power cycle your devices. Believe it or not, many minor issues with any device can be fixed with a power cycle. Think of it like a little power nap that gets the devices going again in a snap. Follow the steps below:

1 Power off the TV and the soundbar.
2 Unplug both from the wall.
3 Unplug the cable linking the TV and the soundbar from both ends.
4 Wait 30 seconds.
5 Plug in the cable to connect the soundbar and TV to each other, and then plug the soundbar and TV into the outlet.
6 Power on the TV first and go through start-up.
7 Power on the Soundbar and test it.
Troubleshooting - Update the Firmware

Updating the firmware on your soundbar keeps everything in working order. Follow the steps below to update your firmware:

1 Visit the Support page to get the latest firmware for your soundbar and unzip it onto a USB flash drive.
2 Turn off the soundbar and connect the USB stick containing the software update to the female port on a Micro USB adapter cable.
3 Turn on the Soundbar. Within 3 minutes, UPDATE will be displayed and updating will begin.
4 After the update is complete, the soundbar turns off and on again. Test the Soundbar.
