DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory)

Samsung has been the undisputable, long-time leader in the DRAM sector and produces the most up-to-date DRAM solutions including components and modules for PC, server and mobile applications. In September 2011, Samsung started producing DDR3 devices based on 20 nanometer class process technology for the first time in the industry. As the pioneer of advanced DRAM technologies, Samsung offers DDR3 solutions with the highest performance and the highest density as well as the lowest power consumption. Samsung continues to offer its 'Green DDR3' products that provide the most value to the customers around the world and contribute to 'greening' the globe.

Keeping pace with the growing influence of the mobile sector, Samsung offers the latest mobile memory solutions LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 that bring the highest level of performance to advanced mobile devices. While consuming significantly low power, the devices offer dramatic performance enhancement to smartphones, table PCs and consumer electronic devices.

NAND Flash

Samsung has been a leading manufacturer of NAND flash solutions and has firmly established its NAND flash solutions as the key components for a diversity of mobile and consumer electronics such as handsets, smartphones, digital still cameras, MP3 players and USB flash drives. Samsung offers broad portfolio of high-performance, high-density NAND flash solutions combined with its preceding controller technologies that encompass embedded and non-embedded memory storage solutions as well as solid state drives that can be used as data storage for PC and enterprise systems. Samsung's cutting-edge 20 nanometer class NAND flash memory products feature differentiated level of performance based on toggle DDR (Double Data Rate) interface which boosts data transfer speed of the devices, and will enable diversity of services for advanced mobile and consumer electronics.

SSD (Solid State Drive)

Samsung's advanced SSD products offer the next-generation storage solution that overcomes the shortcomings of conventional hard disk drives and suggest attractive alternates for PC and server applications and improve the stability and performance of the systems in which they are used. Utilizing its own high-performance toggle DDR NAND flash memory components and distinctive controller technology, Samsung offers a variety of top-notch SSD products with the highest performance, density and reliability. Samsung's newest lineup of SSDs with advanced SATA 6Gb/s interface that are available up to 512 gigabyte (GB) for desktop and notebook PCs.

System LSI

AP (Application Processors)

Samsung's smart and green 'Exynos' family, a line-up of mobile application processors are designed to power mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs. Being the flagship products of Samsung's System LSI Business, the Exynos family brings outstanding performance and power efficiency enhancements to support the stringent requirements of latest mobile devices. Samsung's Exynos products also boast excellent DMIPS (Dhrystone million instructions per second) figures and HD multi-media features, while enabling users enjoy crisp operations of images and videos of their mobile devices.

CMOS Image Sensor

Samsung is a leading provider of CMOS image sensors for use in mobile phones, digital still cameras, DSLR cameras, digital video cameras and camera embedded display. Samsung's leadership in this area includes backside illumination sensor technology, which dramatically enhances the light sensitivity of a sensor, and helps offering clear and crisp image quality. Samsung's imagers also have advantages in high resolution, fast motion playback and longer battery life

Samsung has initiated its foundry business in mid-2005. By leveraging Samsung's long-term component business prowess and semiconductor fabrication expertise, Samsung's foundry business is dedicated to support global fabless and IDM semiconductor companies offering full service solutions encompassing design kits and proven IP to fully turnkey manufacturing to achieve market success with advanced IC designs by Foundry, ASIC and COT engagements. Samsung foundry's advanced low-power processes with high-K metal gate technology offers SoC designers comprehensive foundry solution of integrated functionality and bandwidth as long as advantages in low power consumption.

Samsung offers a broad diversity of LED technologies and products ranging from LED packages, engines, and retrofit lamps and tubes. Samsung's LED packages feature middle power and high power sources with high efficiency, brightness, design-in convenience, low power consumption high reliability and long life for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor applications as well as retrofit lamps. . Samsung key LED engines include the Zhaga socketable solutions and square-types. The Zhaga solutions are standardized, fully integrated light engines with compact form factor, enabling simplified fixture design. Samsung's square type engines enable easy design-in due to its modular structure, with low cost of ownership. These engines are competitive replacements for fluorescent, incandescent, halogen and HID lighting Retrofit lighting, available in bulb and tube form factors are designed for easy retrofit in most lighting applications and fixtures.

Manufacturing Facilities

The Memory and System LSI products are fabricated in the wafer fabrication (front-end) production facilities that are located in Giheung and Hwaseong, Korea (near Seoul), and in Austin, Texas. The company also operates IC assembly and testing plants in Onyang, Korea and Suzhou, China. A key benefit of Samsung's component strategy is operational efficiencies of placing manufacturing facilities and R&D offices on the same plant helps the company create distinctive synergy effect in the industry, while fertilizing communication more efficient and timely.

Samsung is also operating wafer level LED production within the main semiconductor locations in Giheung and Hwaseong, Korea and a package assembly site in Tianjin, China. As a means to secure supplies of core materials, a vertically integrated structure for phosphor and sapphire wafers is formed through a joint venture with Sumitomo Chemicals.

R&D Commitment

Investment in R&D facilities is a high priority today and will continue to be so in the future. Approximately 25 percent of employees in Device Solutions have work duties dedicated to research and development. With main R&D operations located at headquarters, Samsung's semiconductor Businesses conducts active research in Austin, Texas (United States), Hangzhou (China) and Tel Aviv (Israel).
