RDRAM 800MHz-40ns for Intel i850E chipset
-
Intel launched a new chipset, the i850E in May of 2002. This chipset requires a tRAC speed of 40ns,
(for example, RDRAM 800MHz-40ns) when it operates with FSB 533MHz in the system. - SAMSUNG is now producing mass volumes of this 800MHz-40ns RDRAM to support this new chipset.
- The 800MHz-40ns RDRAM guarantees backward compatibility with i850 and i860 as shown in the table below.
| chipset | FSB | memory installation | operation (tRAC) |

Products implementing the RDRAM system solution include "Best-of-Class" desktop PCs, PC workstations, servers, game consoles, HDTVs, set-top boxes, printers, business projectors, displays, network storage servers, core-edge routers, switches and a host of other products. RDRAM devices have found their way into products within the computer, consumer and communications markets.
consumer applicationsRDRAM memory is the choice for many leading consumer products. Consumer product design engineers continue to select RDRAM memory because it delivers the highest bandwidth per square inch of PCB real estate. The Sony PlayStation achieves workstation-level .bandwidth - 3.2GB/sec - from only two RDRAM devices. Combining the highest bandwidth .with the smallest memory footprint, RDRAM devices are also the best solution for consumer video products. RDRAM devices are used in HDTVs, set-top boxes and video game consoles from leading consumer product manufacturers, including Sony, NEC and Panasonic.
computer applicationsDesktop computer systems based on the Intel Pentium 4 processor take advantage of the scalable architecture of RDRAM devices to support dual RDRAM channels for a balanced, .high performance platform. The Pentium's system bus operates at 400MHz matching the 3.2GB/sec bandwidth of the RDRAM memory system. The high memory bandwidth of .RDRAM devices, coupled with their efficient protocol, enables the memory bandwidth necessary .to extract full performance from the Intel Pentium 4 processor.
In general, system performance is limited by the narrowest interconnection. CPUs continue to .get faster and the interconnections that feed them continue to increase in bandwidth. .With that in mind, and with the need to react quickly to changing system requirements, .the scalable architecture of RDRAM memory provides a solution for future designs.
RIMM module compatibilityMemory compatibility for desktop PCs is one of the important features of RDRAM. It allows RDRAM RIMM modules to be interchangeable with full system compatibility. Validated RIMM modules can be placed in an RDRAM-compatible system without regard to memory size, .speed, or organization. Mix and match RIMM modules from various suppliers and they will all work together within the system. No other technology available today can make that claim.
