      The Exynos Application Processor has continuously improved over the years through the advancement of process technology. The latest improvement, 14nm FinFET process technology, enables differentiated silicon value when compared to the previous 20nm design.

      Thanks to the use of newly crafted 3D transistors that overcame the limitations of conventional planar technology, Samsung’s 14nm FinFET technology encloses the conducting channel in a thin silicon “fin”. As a result, overall performance can be enhanced by boosting processing speeds with shorter transistor distances.

      The high energy efficiency of Samsung Exynos products makes them eco-friendly. For example, Exynos 7420, built with 14nm FinFET process technology, lowers power consumption up to 35% compared to the previous 20nm process node.

      Such improvements were possible through the vertical structure of Samsung’s 14nm FinFET technology, which creates more conducting channels. The increased channels enable better current flow and substantially reduce current leakage.

      One of the features that empowers a great user experience is the zero shutter lag. By storing the Bayer image from the CMOS Image Sensor directly in the frame buffer, users can preview images without waiting for JPEG conversion. Additionally, Exynos’ IPs provide various image-enhancement features including DRC, VDIS, 3DNR and FD.
