Samsung has teamed up with the brains behind internationally acclaimed comedy brand, Funny Or Die, hosted by Capacity Relations to bring South Africa a world-first, advanced tech-content roadshow

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 12 July, 2016 – Powered by Samsung Mobile and in partnership with critically acclaimed, award-winning comedy brand Funny Or Die, virtual reality technology will meet digital content live for the first time ever in South Africa this coming September 27th lands on our shores, transforming the way we see, consume and distribute content through powerful technology tools. All aspiring creatives and script writer virtuosos’ are invited to partake in the ground-breaking sessions that will tackle new levels of content transformation, propelling South Africa into a new era of digital content creation and ingenuity.

This ingenious roadshow, the first of its kind, will be taking place in Johannesburg on 27 September and in Cape Town on 29 September 2016. You’ll be able to reserve your seat for R650 from 15July 2016 at 14h00 at www.ticketpro.co.za.

Seasoned creative executives from the Funny Or Die will be launching, elevating and inspiring South African creatives and aspiring film makers to become part of this incredible techno-content initiative. President Digital Content at Funny Or Die, Chris Heuer, is looking forward to coming to South Africa to present to some of the country’s top creatives, “This platform will open up a world of digital technology and entertainment in South Africa, launching the careers of some of the top international up and coming film makers and entertainment specialists.”

As part of competition, The team at Funny Or Die, Capacity Relations and Samsung will also be giving hopeful and talented South African scriptwriters, videographers, vloggers and creatives the opportunity to have their work recognised and seen by over 100 million on Funny or Die as well as R50 000 towards starting their dream. To be eligible to enter The Funny Or Die Short Film competition ; 360 Degrees of Funny, powered by Samsung Mobile, entrants must create a short form storyboard that is under three minutes in length with no more than 4 characters and using only 3 locations. The script must be between 3 and 5 pages long and must be submitted (360offunny@capacityrelations.co.za email address). The first phase of the competition will run from 15 July and close on the 15 August 2016

The top 6 finalists, chosen by the panel at Funny Or Die, will be announced by Capacity Relations on 1 September 2016. Each finalist will then be given a state-of-the-art Samsung product to make use of during the second phase of the competition. With specialized training from Samsung consultants, each finalist will make use of their Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge smartphone, Gear VR technology device as well as a 360 degree Camera to shoot a short film. This phase of the competition will run from 12 July to 15 August 2016 and the final winner will be announced at an official ceremony in Johannesburg on the 27th of September. The winner will be awarded a prize of R50 000 as well as the opportunity to have their video shown to over 100 million people of the Funny or Die website and social media platforms

Competition Terms & Conditions

Please read these Competition terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions) carefully. Participation in this Competition will constitute your agreement to comply with these Terms and Conditions. All participants during the term of this Competition agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions:

Competition: “360 Degrees of Funny” Powered by Samsung (“Competition”) .The promoter of the Competition is Samsung Electronics South Africa (Proprietary) Limited, Registration number: 1994/003872/07 and/or Capacity (Pty) Ltd ("Organizers"). 

Competition Period:

The Competition will run from 00h00 11 July 2016 – 24h00 15 August 2016 (“the Competition Period”).

The duration of the Competition may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the Organizers.

Who may enter:

All participants must :

be citizens of the Republic of South Africa and/or a legal residents of the aforesaid country,

must be currently residing in the Republic of South Africa at the date of the commencement of the Competition Period,

must be a natural person and be at least 18 (Eighteen) years old at the date of the commencement of the Competition Period.

Participation in this Competition excludes the Organizers, their directors, members, partners, employees, agents, consultants, any other person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by them or any supplier of goods and services in connection with the Competition and their spouses, life partners, parents, children, siblings, business partners or associates .

How to enter the Competition:

Create a storyboard/script of a South African Storyline with a comic angle keeping in mind that this will be filmed using a Samsung 360 camera and will be judged and viewed in this way.

he Storyboard/Script must be limited to 3 Characters and 4 Locations within South Africa.

Entry to this Competition does not make any participant a winner.

Entries received before or after the Competition closing period or submitted by any other means will not be accepted.

It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that any information which you provide to the Organizers is accurate, complete and up to date.

The Competition is limited to one entry per participant, should there be any dispute in this regard, the Organizers shall be sole adjudicator of the dispute and the Organizers’ decision shall be final.

Prize

The Competition will include an opportunity for the participant to be selected as a winner by the Organizers.

Prize Includes:
a. R50 000 cash and;
b. Their film showcased on the Funny or Die Website and
c. Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Gear VR and Samsung 360 Camera.

Prize is not transferable. No substitution, cash redemption, or assignment of the Prize is permitted.

The Organizers reserve the right to change the prize should they deem necessary, to a prize of similar economic value.

Any and all tax implications and liabilities as a result of winning the Prize will be solely borne by the winner.

Winners Selection:
The top 6 scripts will be selected by the Organizers between 16 and 30 August 2016.

The top 6 finalists will be informed by the Organizers on 31 August 2016.

All 6 finalists will be provided with a Samsung mobile handset, Gear 360 camera and a Samsung Gear VR. Finalists will also receive a 2hr training session on 2 September. These devices are to be returned to Organizers by 30 September 2016.

Finalists will be given between 2 and 19 September 2016 to shoot their films.

There will be 1 winner; the winner will be announced at the 27th of September 2016 event in Johannesburg.

The decision on the winners is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

If for any unforeseen reason the showcase cannot take place on the aforesaid date, then the Organizers will endeavour to conduct the showcase within a reasonable period thereafter and shall provide details of the new draw date on the www.samsung.com/za/offer.

An entry will be rejected by the Organizers in their sole discretion, if they deem that the entry is inappropriate for any reason or offensive to South African citizens.

The top six finalists will be selected based on creativity, originality, comic angle and the use of 360 surroundings as determined by the Organizers in their sole discretion.

The Organizers will contact all finalists directly via the email address and cellphone number provided on the entry form.

All costs associated with traveling or transport of the finalists to the final event will be paid for and arranged by the Organizers. This excludes meals and additional hotel room charges.

Any costs associated with uploading or accessing the entry website is the entrant’s responsibility and is dependent on the internet/network service provider used.

Incomplete, indecipherable, illegible or inaudible entries will be deemed invalid.

The Organizers’ Committee’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

As a condition of entry, each entrant irrevocably grants to the Competition promoters a license to use and exploit all intellectual property rights.

The Organizers may use all or any part of an entrant’s Work(s) for any purposes at its discretion, including, without limitation, using the entrant’s Work(s) for promotional, marketing or publicity purposes, whether in respect of this promotion, the Organizers, or otherwise.

No responsibility is accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

The winning video will be show cased across multiple platforms at the discretion of the committee with no remuneration for promotional purposes. 

Limitation of Liability: To the extent permitted byConsumer Protection Act and any other applicable law:

The participant and/or winner(s) hereby indemnifies the Organizers and Promoter against any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential or punitive damages or loss of any kind regardless of how this was caused, and whether it arose under the law of contract or delict or otherwise, because of the participants entrance to the Competition.

the Organizers exclude all warranties (express or implied), representations and liabilities regarding this Competition (other than for death or personal injury caused by its negligence and/or fraud)

General:

The Organizers reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and participants (including but not limited to a participant’s identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any participants who submit an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions or who tampers with the entry process.

The winners will be called on the winner’s mobile number supplied by the winner when entering the Competition. The Organizers shall attempt to contact the winner for a period of 10 (ten) working days after his or her name is drawn as a winner, were after the winner will forfeit the prize as set out in clause 8.3 below.

In the event that the winner is unreachable as set out in clause 8.2 above, ineligible, or fails to claim or accept delivery of the Prize, the Prize shall be forfeited to another winner based on the Terms and Conditions. The Organizers shall in its own discretion determine the time period for a Prize to be claimed or for deliver to be accepted.

In accordance with the confidentiality policies and practices of the Organizers, none of the entry details of any participant in this Competition will be disclosed or used by the Organizers for any purposes other than for entry into the Competition and in accordance with clause 8.6 below.

Participants acknowledge and accept that the Organizers shall utilise a third party (the “Organizer’s authorized agent/s”) to contact the participant, in the event that the participant is a winner, and to arrange delivery of the Prize. In order to affect the contacting and delivery process, the Organizers’ shall provide the participant’s information to such third party.

Details of participants will not be used by the Organizers for Samsung related communication should the participants opt-out to receive further communication from the Organizers.

Information regarding the Competition that is published on authorized advertising material will also form part of the terms and conditions of the Competition.

The Organizers may require the winner and the winner agrees by entering the Competition (at no cost), to be identified, photographed, filmed and the aforegoing to be published in any media and the winner's name and image may be published on www.samsung.com/za/offer. Winners may however at any time decline the use of their name, likeness or image by the Organizer.

The Organizers’ may at their sole discretion amend these terms and conditions at any time, without notice, and such amendments shall be deemed to have taken effect from the date of publication of the revised terms and conditions on the Organizers’ website www.samsung.com/za/offer . The onus rests on the participant to constantly check the website for updates to the terms and conditions.

If this Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Organizers, including but not limited to technical difficulties, unauthorized intervention or fraud, the Organizers reserve the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law: (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition as appropriate, subject to the approval of relevant regulatory authorities (if required).

Save as permitted by Law, the Organizers reserves the right to cancel, suspend or terminate this Competition, without notice at any time, and such cancellation, termination or termination shall be deemed to have taken effect from the date of publication on the Organizers’ website www.samsung.com/za/offer .No liability shall lie against the Organizers in favour of any participant, winner(s) and/ or third party arising from such cancellation, suspension or termination. Therefore the participant waives his/her right which they may have against the Organizers and hereby acknowledge that they will have no right of recourse or claim of any nature whatsoever against the Organizers.

This Competition is governed by these terms and conditions, as well as those of the relevant authorized participating stores, associated with this Competition.

Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with the Competition shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa.

The Organizers reserve the right to withhold the Prize until it is entirely satisfied that the claimant of the Prize is the bona fide winner, and reserves the right to call for such proof as it may deem necessary.

The Organizers accepts no liability or responsibility, whether occasioned by any circumstance not foreseeable and not within its reasonable control for late or delayed delivery of the Prize owing to, but not limited to, stock unavailability, strike, lock out, destruction of Prize on route to winner by any means, any civil commotion or disorder, riot, threat of war, any action taken by governmental authority or public authority of any kind, fire, explosion, storm, flood, earth quake or other acts of God.

If part or all of any clause of these Terms and Conditions is illegal, invalid or unenforceable:

It will be read down to the extent necessary to ensure that it is not illegal, invalid or unenforceable, but if that is not possible;

It will be severed from these Terms and Conditions and the remaining provisions of these Terms and Conditions will continue to have full force and effect.

Consumer Protection Act:

To the extent that the Terms and Conditions or any goods or services provided under the Terms and Conditions are governed by the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (the "Consumer Protection Act"), no provision of the Terms and Conditions are intended to contravene the applicable provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, and therefore all provisions of the Terms and Conditions must be treated as being qualified, to the extent necessary, to ensure that the applicable provisions of the Consumer Protection Act are complied with.
