There are many aspects that need to be just right; size, shape, battery, software, memory and camera performance, just to name a few. At the heart of every device is the processor, which ensures that all the device’s features are managed appropriately, that the device runs smoothly and is made to last.
Meizu PRO 5, the pro-level device powered by Exynos 7 Octa
One manufacturer that appreciates and ranks the value of the Exynos processor very highly in their flagship line-up is Meizu. Growing at an incredible rate year after year, Meizu is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturers in the world today. A little insight into why Meizu decided to use the Exynos processor in their flagship device reveals how important it is that the new PRO 5 has pro-level performance and efficiency. Ard Boudeling, Meizu’s Global Brand Manager, explains that “Meizu’s choice of components reflects the fundamental vision behind the new PRO-series, which is to make no compromises of any kind. All other semiconductor companies are irreconcilable with that character, so they were discarded as options in the early phases of development. The Samsung Exynos processor currently is the only option if you want to build a genuine premium device.”
The Exynos 7 Octa is the mobile SoC to drive that vision forward. Boudeling further commented on the importance of using a SoC that delivers an all-round premium user experience; “The Exynos 7420 truly feels like a tailor-made suit for the PRO 5. The mobile SoC generally is the most important hardware component and plays a central role in the end-user experience. The PRO 5 isn't any different in that regard and Samsung's octa-core processor is the only one up to that task. As a result, the PRO 5 performs excellent no matter what you throw at it.”
Performance is not the only factor to consider when people are looking for a new flagship device. Samsung has developed Exynos 7 Octa built on 14nm FinFET process to be very efficient, allowing users to enjoy what they like for longer. Boudeling expressed how important this is, and how Exynos aligns with their vision; “The aim is to create a product with good software, solid hardware and optimize those well for each other. If you tick all three boxes, you’ve got yourself an interesting mobile device. We’re not just confident that Flyme OS 5 and the Exynos 7420 are good products separately, we’re also certain that they complement each other when harmonized in the way we did with the PRO 5. All of that is just the prologue of what proves to be great performance and efficiency.”
Advanced photography and visual experience with Exynos 7 Octa
The performance becomes even more apparent when using the phone’s camera. It doesn’t just record high resolution photos and videos, but also opens your apps very quickly. The speed at which the camera app launches is becoming increasingly important to capture all your precious moments. Boudeling stated that “Backed by the speed of the Exynos processor, the PRO 5 offers PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and laser-assisted focusing with its 21.16-megapixel camera to achieve precise focusing in all lighting conditions. It doesn’t end there, the Exynos 7420 helps the PRO 5 to stay below the 40 degrees Celsius barrier after 10 minutes of 4K video recording – that’s an exceptional achievement. Furthermore, the ISP (Image Signal Processor) of the Exynos 7420 optimizes sharpening, color and offers better effects than we’ve seen on any other device – all automatically.”
Boudeling further commented on how PRO 5 offers premium visual experience; “The PRO 5 is the ideal companion for power users, the GPU played an important role in achieving that. The Mali-T760 MP8 is unbeaten in its performance and also breezes past the other high-end offerings in its efficiency (i.e. performance/used power ratio) by a significant margin. The 14nm FinFET process, slightly higher (dynamic) clock speeds, ability to use LPDDR4 and two additional shader cores all translate to an unequalled visual experience.”
