India is facing the era of true digitalization catalyzed by nationwide 4G LTE services, and this is happening at a pace yet to be seen elsewhere. With high speed mobile broadband and connectivity at the foundation of increased internet access as well as new business opportunities for Indians, innovative spirit will be fostered across the country.



At the joint press conference between Jio and Samsung on February 28 at Media Village, Gran Fira during MWC 2017, the two companies, as first-hand observers of this dramatic digitalization process, shared the details of what is happening in India and how it was made possible with around 100 media outlets and analysts.

Jio and Samsung's joint press conference mainly revolved around Jio's successful 4G LTE business and its impact on the everyday lives of the 1.3 billion Indians.

The press conference commenced with an opening speech from Jyotindra Thacker, President of Jio. He noted that the Jio's strength lies in its ability to connect machine intelligence and human imagination on an unprecedented scale, and that this will propel India into taking global leadership in the digital economy.

President and Head of Samsung Electronics' Network Business, Youngky Kim, said that Jio's accomplishment in acquiring a hundred million subscribers within 170 days does not come across as a miracle to him. He elaborated that Jio was fully equipped to meet its specific set of vision to begin with, and that he holds no doubt in the company going beyond what it has already achieved. To conclude, he added that Samsung will be Jio's companion in taking steps towards the future of the information age.

Senior Vice President at Jio Tareq Amin added that its cooperation with Samsung on the Infill & Growth Project will enable Jio to continue building out its network, and that the company is now focusing on in-building coverage and black spots in rural and urban areas. He noted that Jio's accomplishment in having 7 new customers every second was made possible owing to many of its achievements accumulated over the past few months, where Jio being the first in the world to offer LTE multicast services on a large scale is a significant example. 

Srini Sundararajan, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics, stated that as a trusted partner, Samsung has supplied Jio with LTE E2E solution consisting of the RAN, Core, professional service, and tool. He continued by saying that Samsung will strive to create new paradigms for LTE-Advanced Pro and 5G by closely cooperating with Jio as a unified workforce.

During the Q&A session, Samsung and Jio demonstrated their industry-leading capabilities by sharing and exchanging their thoughts, vision, and prospective plans in enabling Digital India. Jio's ambition in being the 5th largest operator in the world was also announced here. 

In recognition of bringing a shift in paradigm to India's telecommunications industry, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. (“Jio”) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) have been awarded with “Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets” from Global Mobile Awards 2017 at Mobile World Congress 2017. With the deployment of world's largest greenfield LTE network in India, the two companies have enabled the country to take step towards becoming a pioneer in the global telecommunications industry by narrowing its digital divide.
