Samsung and Intel Exceed 1Tbps of Throughput in 5G Core User Plane

Sep 21. 2023

Samsung and Intel achieved another performance breakthrough, exceeding one Terabit per second (1 Tbps) in 5G Core User Plane Function (UPF) throughput using 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors.

In 2020, the companies reached 305 Gigabit per second (Gbps) per server on 5G Standalone (SA) Core.  Less than three years later, the companies more than tripled data processing capacity to establish another significant industry milestone using enhanced 5G Core software and advanced processors.

Samsung 5G SA Core builds on the cloud-native architecture, providing highly stable solutions that deliver the capacity and reliability required for network applications. The resulting performance advancement will help improve cost-efficiency for 5G Core network deployments, optimizing the utilization of servers.

Increased throughput performance will enable expanded array of immersive 5G use cases that require much higher data rates and lower latency.

Samsung continues to deliver technological breakthroughs and exponential results for the 5G ecosystem through ongoing collaborations with industry-leading partners, such as Intel.
