SAN JOSE, California - October 19, 2017 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that it hosted the second annual Silicon Valley 5G Summit under the theme "Realizing Commercial 5G" at Samsung Research America (SRA) in San Jose.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event "Realizing 5G Through FWA and Beyond", the summit was dedicated to the discussion of an open end-to-end ecosystem for fifth generation wireless networks.

The discussions made during the event revolved around the industry's efforts on planning and building the future of networks. As members of the ecosystem advance on the path towards 5G commercialization, the participants' shared vision of providing unprecedented services and experiences for both consumers and businesses was especially highlighted.

The summit brought together over 150 participants including government representatives, service providers, manufacturers, industry analysts and experts.

Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, Executive Vice President and Head of Next Generation Communications Business Team at Samsung Electronics, opened the summit by discussing the progress made so far by the industry over the past twelve months. He also made a remark on the continuous improvement that can be seen in technology as well as the commercialization plans being made by operators.

During the summit's first keynote speech, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel said: "The wireless revolution is remaking our civic and commercial life. To power our mobile future - and lead the world in 5G service - we need to free up more spectrum and make smart choices about infrastructure. That's why this discussion is so important." Philip Marnick, OFCOM Spectrum Group Director and Chair of European Radio Spectrum Policy Group, discussed the British regulator vision to "ensure the world has the spectrum it needs for 5G" including low frequency around 700 MHz, high frequency around 3.5 GHz, and mmWave.

The speakers and panelists that came after, for the following sessions, gathered from some of the most influential organizations including 3GPP, Analog Devices, Arqiva, Cisco, Cobham Wireless, Ericsson, Facebook, Harman, HPE, Intel, Keysight Technologies, KT, National Instruments, Nokia, Ovum, Qualcomm, Rohde & Schwarz, SK Telecom, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Xilinx and xRAN.org.

Mark Louison, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Samsung Electronics America, closed the summit and thanked the participants for their dedication that went into the exchange of ideas.

In parallel to the conference, attendees were able to take a look at Samsung's 5G technologies enabling various use cases. The demonstrations that were held during the event include the streaming of 4K UHD and live 360° video as well as cloud gaming.
