Samsung and Spark New Zealand recently signed a commercial agreement where Samsung will provide 5G network equipment for Spark’s 2020 5G deployment. This agreement builds on the successful demonstration of Samsung 5G equipment in end-to-end 5G trials hosted in Spark’s lab. The results of the trials positively demonstrated to Spark the high-performance capabilities of Samsung’s 5G technology. Spark will deploy Samsung’s latest 5G New Radio (NR) solutions in the country’s most populous city. The solution includes Massive MIMO radios that have a slim profile, are lightweight, and provide space savings on towers.

Rajesh Singh, Spark’s GM of Value Management, stated, “one of the main reasons we selected Samsung was their 5G NR solutions which deliver enhanced network capability, high quality connections, and state of the art technology.” The operator, the largest in New Zealand, plans to phase the 5G deployment to deliver both wireless broadband and mobile services in other locations in 2020.
