Highlights

This year, Samsung Networks will host a virtual event in lieu of exhibiting at Mobile World Congress. The virtual event will feature our goals and visions for 2022 as well as our efforts in advancing new technology developments for the telecom industry.

We’re realizing more than ever that ‘connectivity’ is one of the most important part of our lives and needs to be cherished.

To pursue and enhance this connectivity, Samsung is innovating 5G solutions that are serving as a solid foundation for the millions of connected people and things.

Our prime focus for 2022 will be in three key areas, including ‘Innovation’, ‘Virtualization’ and ‘Intelligence’. During the virtual event, we will share various videos highlighting our wide range of competitive 5G products, network virtualization and automation and private networks. Furthermore, we will talk about how we are preparing for the future with sustainable technologies such as energy saving and 6G.

Samsung is always committed to bringing the most groundbreaking technologies and services in mobile communications.

1. Chipset & RAN Solutions

5G has given us faster speeds, more connections and lower latency. However, such enhanced performance does require more complex technologies, higher frequencies and wider bandwidths. How do you address these challenges? The answer lies in Samsung’s diverse 5G product portfolio that meets the different requirements of our customers.

Samsung’s in-house 5G chipsets, which are designed, developed and manufactured solely by Samsung, empowers these advancements. From Basebands with diverse form-factors, greener and powerful Massive MIMO Radios, more powerful dual-band mmWave Compact Macros to Indoor solutions, Samsung’s 5G innovations continues.

2. Fixed Wireless Access Solutions

Fixed Wireless Access, or FWA, has been around since before 5G.

Recently, the technology has piqued the interest of both governments, who are keen on resolving the digital divide, and the mobile industry. Thanks to many 5G technology innovations, FWA has helped many industries and Samsung is at the forefront of that evolution. We have enhanced speeds and coverage and with technology like network slicing, we’ve enabled more diverse service applications. In addition, with multiple partnerships with CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) companies, high and reliable FWA performance can be guaranteed and agile expansion is also possible. Samsung has engaged in a PoC trial to enhance Seoul metro’s public WiFi service and this is a great example of how FWA can be used outside the home.

3. Transport & SDN Solutions

Mobile operators need to manage an end-to-end network that consists of the RAN, Core and Transport. Cases such as Private networks or vRAN solutions that requires a turnkey network solution are also increasing, furthering the needs for a powerful transport.

As such, Samsung has widened its portfolio to include a transport solution. Furthermore, by combining the transport with Samsung’s intelligent SDN solution, operators can manage their E2E network more efficiently and introduce network slicing.

4. Virtualized RAN Solutions

The mobile telecommunications industry is experiencing a new wave of disruption.

A change that stands out above others is network virtualization.

Samsung believes vRAN is causing a complete paradigm shift in existing mobile networks.

Its cloud native based expandability and flexibility helps operators save not only CAPEX but OPEX by utilizing automation tools. The entire process of network lifecycle management can be automated for zero-touch operation. Samsung has made big technological advancements in vRAN and now its solution can match the level of performance expected from a traditional RAN. Samsung’s field-proven vRAN solution has succeeded in wide-scale commercial deployment with global tier-1 operators and will pave the way towards next-generation networks.

5. 5G Core Solutions

Samsung Core is the backbone of flexible and powerful networks. Its cloud native structure is based on containers and micro-services for fast and easy lifecycle management. Samsung Core is meeting the high performance required for the 5G era. Last year, we took part in the 5G SA commercial launch in Korea. With years of experience and expertise under our belt, Samsung is now offering a complete Core portfolio for our customers. This includes the Macro Core, Compact Core and Public Cloud Core.

6. AI-based Network Automation

Today’s networks are becoming programmable, software-driven, and architectures are now service-based.

Samsung Automation Platform provides automation for the entire network including end-to-end lifecycle management for network functions and network slicing for individual 5G services.

It helps network elements become more flexible and endlessly adaptable, while supporting dynamic infrastructures. This will eliminate the complexity of network operation, simplify service launches and reduce costs for operators.

7. Private Network Solutions

5G enables private networks, which helps enterprises build their own dedicated networks for various services based on their unique needs. Based on its full, turnkey solution capabilities, Samsung Networks can support enterprise customers all the way through their journey to find the best partner, design the most optimal configuration, proceed with efficient deployment and receive agile support regarding any issues or upgrade for expansion.

Samsung’s private network solution is a versatile offering that can be used for a variety of use cases.

From utility, manufacturing to smart cities, Samsung envisions many applications where private networks play a key role. Furthermore, with the rising need of safety and public services in times of emergencies from nations across the world, Samsung offers an end-to-end public safety solution. We have already supported nationwide deployment and commercialization in multiple countries. We are also leading the 3GPP industry standards and will continue to pioneer the public safety market.

8. 6G

Samsung is pioneering research and development for next-generation communications. Our vision, “The Next Hyper-Connected Experience,” illustrates the endless possibilities that 6G will bring.

We are committed to lead the successful 6G standards development at organizations such as 3GPP and ITU-R. Moreover, Samsung is pouring its efforts in 6G research and development to enable a leap to next generation telecommunication technologies such as Terahertz communication and AI adaptation.

9. Energy Saving Solutions

Samsung understands our role in sustainability as a global company and we are taking diverse measures to take responsibility for our actions. An important part of this is creating greener solutions. An intelligent energy saving solution will be a key factor in not only reducing operational costs for mobile operators but also reducing carbon footprint.

To do so, Samsung has adapted AI technology as well as advanced in-house chipsets to its RAN product solution. We now expect to save energy by more than 30%.
