Micro-segmentation to bring connected living to multi-family

Nov 26. 2019

On this episode of Recalibrate, host Jason Claybrook and recurring contributor Dr. Simon Lok focus their conversation around networking in residential America. As networks continue to improve in speed and capabilities, new dedicated networking solutions can offer better and more convenient approaches for delivering higher performance broadband to its customers. This is especially true for use cases servicing multi-family complexes. A new model for urban housing could provide residents with more flexible access to broadband using a building wide SSID that uses micro-segmentation to provide individual users with their own section of the network. This approach can offer increased speed, accessibility, and security over older, inefficient enterprise networking model as well as provide property owners with new revenue opportunities and higher resident retention.

00 How does micro-segmentation work in these housing facilities?
30 Micro-segmentation allows you to access your home network across the facility.
00 Micro-Segmentation model scales to thousands of users like stadiums and concert halls.
45 Micro-segmentation improves security and speed while reducing band-traffic.
00 Properties can become service providers to residents with dramatically added benefits: smart washers/dryers with automatic maintenance reports, smart locks, wider coverage, etc.
50 Facility wide coverage is essentially required for IoT & smart home devices.
20 These networks can offer revenue sources for properties and benefits for residents.
15 Smarter apartment buildings wither faster networking can help retain residents.
15 People are willing to pay for convenience, reliability, and security.
00 The live, work, and play concept only works with fast, flawless connectivity.
00 Designing networks to resolve future problems.
55 Samsung focuses on usability and sustainability for these networks. Micro-segmented and IoT networks are serviceable by the same technicians that already do the basic building maintenance.
45 Since it's not enterprise networking, building management doesn't need to pay corporate level fees. Micro-segmented networks are easy to set up, use, and maintain by existing staff.
