SEOUL, Korea – July 3, 2025 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Orange France, one of Europe’s leading telecommunications operators, announced the companies have successfully completed the first 4G and 5G calls on Orange France’s virtualized RAN (vRAN) and Open RAN network in a city in southwestern France. By leveraging Samsung’s versatile vRAN solutions, Orange France has enhanced its network capabilities benefiting from the increased flexibility and innovation offered by vRAN and Open RAN.
This pilot marks a significant step forward in the strategic partnership between Orange and Samsung, highlighting their shared commitment to accelerating the shift toward a more open, software-based architecture optimized for today’s fast-evolving networks. Introducing Samsung’s revolutionary solutions into its network is also a part of Orange’s strategy to diversify its supplier ecosystem, paving the way to fostering a richer and healthier ecosystem.
Before proceeding to the field testing, the companies conducted rigorous tests in the Orange labs in Lyon, demonstrating technical and operational readiness. The first 4G and 5G calls on Orange France’s pilot network proved Samsung’s robust and mature vRAN technology. Throughout the field tests, the observed performance showed strong potential for high-quality and reliable network delivery in future live deployments. Now, the companies are advancing to the next stage as they plan expansion to additional sites in southwest and western parts of France by the end of 2025.
