Samsung celebrates success at 2012 LTE Awards

May 24. 2012

Barcelona, Spain - May 24, 2012 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, an advanced network solution provider, today announced that its Smart LTE Networks deployment was named ‘Most Innovative LTE Commercial Launch’ at this year’s LTE Awards, part of the annual LTE World Summit in Barcelona.

The deployment, which was launched in Seoul earlier this year, ensures high-quality 4G coverage for KT customers over a geographical area of 605km2with a total population of 10.4 million.

"We are honored and delighted to receive this prestigious award, that demonstrates our commitment to bringing great innovation and efficiency to carrier customers across our LTE portfolio," said Youngky Kim, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telecommunication Systems Business of Samsung Electronics. "Our Smart LTE deployment with the operator is a strong foundation for the growth of our Smart LTE portfolio around the world. We’re now bringing the full weight of this experience to our LTE business in Europe, where we are committed to investing in long-term partnerships with the region’s leading mobile operators."

Samsung’s Smart LTE Networks is the first solution of its kind that applies cloud computing principles to enable management of network conditions out of a centralized controller, allowing operators to more effectively allocate radio resources and benefit from network scalability and capacity. Samsung Smart LTE Networks is designed to maximize the utilization of networks through specialized resource allocation technology. It is specifically designed to handle tremendous mobile data traffic conditions such as high-density metropolitan areas faced by the operator Seoul.

Using a centralized configuration requiring fewer cell sites, Samsung Smart LTE Networks has yielded remarkable reduction in the operator’s CAPEX/OPEX. It also provides a high level of flexibility for the operator-with the operator able to change network layout simply by relocating or adding remote radio units-and yields significantly lower outage rates and higher handover performance for the operator across one of the most dense urban areas in the world.

Samsung’s LTE efforts are backed by over 30 years of Samsung’s experience and leadership in developing and commercializing some of the world’s most popular communication services. Based on its wide range of field-experience in OFDMA technology, Samsung has already successfully partnered with dozens of mobile service providers to help them implement the most advanced 4G solutions including Sprint and MetroPCS in the US, KDDI in Japan and SK telecom in South Korea and Mobily in Saudi Arabia.
