SEOUL, Korea – February 23, 2012 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, an advanced network solution provider, will introduce its evolved LTE solution and associated advanced features at Mobile World Congress 2012, anticipating a revolution in the European LTE market.

At this year’s Congress, Samsung will showcase market’s the most advanced and field-proven 4G LTE product line-up with distinguished solution saving CAPEX/OPEX as well as differentiated performance. Moreover, it unveils upcoming network and service platforms which allow service provider to generate new revenue streams and to bring end-users richer experience.

Leveraging those innovative mobile network solutions, Samsung continues to strengthen its market presence in Europe, building on the success of its LTE business in the US, Asia and the Middle East.

“As smart device usage increase exponentially and global mobile data traffic explodes, the telecom industry is now face challenge of preparing and adapting for the mobile broadband era. With fully differentiated solutions specifically designed to efficiently handle mobile traffic, Samsung has deployed and commercialized massive LTE networks in the US and South Korea and is providing them to Japan. Our demonstrable experience in advanced LTE technology provides our customers with confidence and can support them going into new era.” said, Youngky Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Telecommunication Systems Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Smart LTE networks handling the data explosion

Samsung’s flagship Smart LTE networks have been designed to manage huge volumes of mobile data traffic efficiently by using an advanced air resource allocation technology with centralized control. Smart LTE went live earlier this year and is already demonstrating its performance and reduce network costs in Seoul, Korea, one of the most data intense and densest urban areas in the world.

Samsung SmartMBS for the most flexible Networks

Samsung SmartMBS (Multi-standard Base Station) is a single platform that supports multiple radio technologies such as LTE, TD-LTE, CDMA, HSPA+ and GSM.

Samsung recently announced the addition of advanced GSM solutions to its product portfolio and now offers a complete range of technologies which provides operators a single-source solution for all their network expansion and migration requirements. SmartMBS has been successfully commercialized in Korea and in the US, which sees the greatest variety and combination of telecom technologies in a single market.

Upcoming service platforms bringing enhanced user experience

Samsung is bringing a number of new solutions in order to provide richer mobile experiences to end-users and generate new revenue streams for operators. At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Samsung will deliver a live demonstration comparing the service quality and data throughput between current network solutions and Samsung’s new service platform.

One of Samsung’s demonstrations will show a significant reduction in backhaul bandwidth usage and a clear improvement in quality of service when using its MCDN (Mobile Contents Delivery Network), demonstrating the suitability of Samsung MCDN as a platform for content-oriented applications.

In addition, Samsung will enable end-users to experience 3G equivalent voice quality on the LTE network, even in congested traffic environments. Samsung expects that its VoLTE solution, which enables this functionality, will be commercialized in the second quarter of this year.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the telecom infrastructure industry, Samsung's expertise in OFDM technology through commercialized 4G mobile broadband services, combined with its strong focus on R&D, allows Samsung to continuously lead in the development of innovative mobile solutions and therefore provides differentiation to the operators.

Samsung is in close discussions on LTE business and on its market-leading Smart LTE networks with major operators around the world. Last year Samsung founded a specialist organization, ENO (Europe Network Operations), as the center of its network business in Europe, and in 2012 it will be accelerating its investment and business footprint in the region.
